The TCM is stupid, just like the owner of the car for messing up his tranny just out of curiosity. Go figure! I won't even dare try to go that fast in my 5-speed with 150k miles.

i went 143 mph (stock tire size) but the spedos are always off. the only way you can truly know how fast you're going is getting a GPS spedo. the manufacturers make the spedo offset intentionally. i went 143 w/158k miles. whatever, i don't do it anymore cuz i lost my license so many times, go figure!

How about this 1 time after band camp I got my max up to RED line in 5th gear! Im not too sure how fast I was really going since the spedo was well past the 140 mph mark..
You have to treat your car a certain way if you expect to take it to it's limits. "you don't just jump in the ring with Ali cause you think you can box"

"He know's I can box." LOL nice fast n furious quote. That is pretty fast for a car with that mileage, I got up to 135 give or take speedo error last year. Of course all auto enthusiasts want to see how fast their car can go. I admit it was fun when I used to do it, but speeds like that on US highways is dangerous. It's not really worth the adrenaline rush. I've had too many tickets and you never know when a deer is going to come out and say "Hi". Besides, if your tire blows out, that road that you that was perfect for a high speed run becomes very small and eventually turns to no road at all. I don't think there is anything really wrong with driving that fast as long as people are smart about it. I never pushed it that far unless there were no cars in sight. Just be cautious and watch your surroundings. Nothing wrong with having a little fun.

There's nothing smart about driving that fast....tell me what is smart about it other than the adrenaline rush. That's is not even considered a smart reason. Even if you see something way ahead of time, reaction time is reduced at very high velocities. And if your car doesn't have an upgraded performance braking system, you really cannot expect to stop your car on-time or even safely. Once you blow out a tire, its time to say your prayers.

It is a choice we are all faced with. Some people like big wheels, some like loud stereo's and others like to go fast. Of course at high speeds everything is different but the real difference comes down to knowing your vehicles limits. Knowing how close you can come to them without going too far. It comes down to experience and good judgment when driving at faster speeds. This is why there are so many high speed accidents. Most drivers don't have the experience to drive over 65mph. So you end up with people that skip the experience and know how stage and cross the limits of the vehicle/skills.

And that is why you see fatal accidents in the news. Worse of it is that in many cases innocent lives were lost as well. Definitely, there's nothing smart about any of this. This type of activity belongs in a closed track, not in public highways.

trust me going that fast isnt all that...

i would never try to push my max that high even tho i have low miles on her..

i was caught doing 132 in a 40mph stright away here in NH (dwhighway in merrimack... for all you new hampshire folk) but it was in a 66 chevelle ss... and if you have ever seen DW highway in merrimack.. it is wide, and not very busy... even then i made sure no cars were around before i did it... i was taged on radar by a statie at 132 and lost licence for 2 years and BIG fines... last time i ever did that...

but it was a great story to tell all my friends...

I know I can get 130 mph in 4th. That is at redline too.

Lets get back to the post.. Went 132mph and nothing happened? Well you said your car runs different so something happened..
Flush the trans first off

I hit 139 on my 95 max auto trans in midday; Racing some stupid 2004 fixed focus... but you know maximas are focus killers. going that fast is a rush especially in midday its scary seeing many cars going slower around u when ur going that fast. The good ol auto transmission handled that 139 mph plus my car has 180k miles but like how people say its the way u take care of your car, regular oil changes with proper care and maintenence. LOL funny how the thread change drastically

I agree, that's why I don't do it anymore. I'm just saying that if you do speed like that be smart about it. It's your life at risk you shouldn't involve others that are on the road.

y go 132 and then go right for the breaks? if u dont have room to caost back down to a resonable speed then u shouldnt be going that fast.

If its traffic your getting on the brakes hard for I agree. You don't want to find yourself responsible for raming someone in the rear Thats not fare to others. I have been slammed real hard (haha ) in the rear= much pain and suffering for years..

I have been in maximas both auto and manual at that speed and the car has lived another day. Im not sure of the history of the car but it seems as though your latest ordeal was the "straw that broke the camels back" or just have random mechanical failure that may or may not be related. Check the compression and if its good your fine, just start your basic troubleshooting
