HELP!!! Car Won't Start!

My Max hasn't started in like 2 weeks. I put a new starter in and now it will crank and not start. A few times it will start but then it will die right away even if I press on the gas. Also my jumper cables get REALLY hot when I try to start the car and after a few times the cables will get so hot they will start to melt. Do I have a short somewhere? If anyone can offer any help it would be great. Also I just changed my spark plugs.

i wish i could help you with the won't start problem but i can tell you about your jumper cable part.

your jumper cables are too small, meaning the guage of the wires. a really good set of jumper cables are going to have wire the size of your battery cables (or bigger). cheap jumper cables have small wires and big plastic insulation to make them appear decent. pull back the insulation on the clamp where the wire is attached and you'll see how big the wires are (or aren't).

secondly, the cables getting hot means that you are pulling a lot of current over the jumper cables. this means that your battery doesn't have much charge in it. maybe you have an alternator problem as well.

I just got rid of a "no start" issue w/ my max. It would crank for about 15-30 seconds, then sputter into a rough idle. I checked all through the TSB's and the troubleshooting steps they guide you through, none of them worked. ( not to say they we're useless, just didnt fix "my" problem, or I misunderstood them) it turned to be a timing chain problem. she starts great now. ...oh yea you also mentioned that you changed your sparks, are the gaps set properly my 2 cents good luck - kris
