are the headlight wiring screwed up?

Ok my friend's has a 99 max. He just installed new silverstar bulbs in them, i helped him so i know the connection is firm and solid. And the bulbs weren't touched. Now he has a upgraded plug and play harness. The type with 2 ends a female and a male. Not the type you need to splice in.

So here is the problem, i installed driver side first. Tested it both lights are on and highbeams work as well. Then turned them off and did the pass. side. Tested them and not the driver side don't work but the passenger side works. This is with the hood open. My friend didn't notice the driver side light out at first cause he looked at the passanger thinking the driver's worked already and slammed his hood down. And now the driver side works as well. So i figure it was a loose wire i re-connected everything. Then everything works fine. We waited till it got dark and went to see the diffrence. On the drive everything was working the way it was suppose to, then he hit a couple of bumps and the highbeam indicator blinks along with the driver side light. If the highbeam indicator stays on, the driver side stays off. We didn't splice anything just a plug and play. So figure we have some type of bad signal wire on the driver side. Maybe a damaged wire or a wire that is semi-touching. I doubt it would be a ground wire.

How would i go about finding out what the problem is? I wass thinking of using a probe and my volt meter on the driver side with the headlights and just wiggling it and seeing if the volts change and seeing it if a cross. But aside from that, i don't know whats step 2.

I want to juse replace his how driver side headlight wiring but i don't have a wiring diagram of the car to find out where the wiring begins. I figure the split of the driver/pass is where i should begin the replacement of the wire from that to the actual headlight. But no diagrams

I want to check that ground on the driver side. But i don't know where its located.

I was playing with the wires today. I removed the upgraded harness so its one less thing to check. I tug on the wire a little and the bulb goes out and i let go and it turns on. How would i go about checking if its a loose wire in towards the wires on the connector?

Its weird how only the driver side is like this, shouldn't they be sharing a common ground?

in addition to replacing the stock socket, put some dielectric grease on the socket mating surfaces.

Sounds like a melting bulb socket to me. Replace the bulb socket.

yea, i told him to just buy a set of 9004 sockets and put them in. He never used overwatts bulbs before tho. Alway bought the cheap GE bulbs at wal-mart.

Did you verify everything with a multi-meter yet?

You can still burn out sockets with standard wattage bulbs. I don't really understand how but it has happened to me. The Dielectric grease seemed to put an end to it.
