got these from a friend of mine. thinking of selling them, but i do want hid's later on. i know these ballasts are branded hella and they're decent and were used in an H4 setup. That's about all I know about them. What else do I need for an hid setup. i'm just looking to do a homemade glare shield instead of the costlier retrofit. what are those three connectors? also, when putting in hid bulbs, are they too long for the stock headlight reflectors?

I would say no, or people probably wouldn't have Maximas with HIDs. This answer was by simple deduction only, not personal experience.

He did say it was used in an H4 setup, therefore these ballasts were probably powering H4 bulbs. H4 bulbs do not fit the stock maxima headlights, also maxima headlight reflectors do not lay down H4 beam patterns correctly. Unless..... you have cefiros.

so i guess ballasts are bulb specific? H4 or 9004? or can u buy certain harnesses to fit different bulbs? i know the cefiros have a reflector piece as well, but i heard the glare with them is pretty nasty with hid's.

Although I've never wired HID's before, I am familiar with the different headlight wiring harnesses. The wire and socket used on that ballast is most likely for H4's only since it is hard wired into the ballast unit itself and the other end is wired into an H4 socket. The pins are also different between H4s and 9004, like 9004 is different from 9007.

If everything involving the H4 side of things is hardwired, it looks like you're either gonna need to do a lot of custom work, buy some Cefiros, or sell all this and buy a 9004 compatible setup.
