Yes.

It's not hard to paint but it all depends on what you want the cover to look like when its done. You'll need masking tape, an Exacto blade and 500 degree engine paint. The engine paint will not will not damage if you spill oil or gas on it.

The most time you'll spend on it will be the masking.

This is how mine came out because I took my time:

This cover is a cosmetic item. You may drive around without it.

When I painted mine I used the vaseline method by applying it to parts I do not want to paint. Yuck is how I describe it came out. The vaseline didnt' quite completely mask the area and it was messy wipping off. I got mad and just painted the whole thing silver..made life easier Actually it would've made my life easier by leaving it alone in the first place.

Try try sanding the letters with fine grit sandpaper.

It's funny how many people recommend this technique but have never tried it. You are the first person that I know of in the last 20 years who has actually done it; and you got just the results that I predicted. Maybe we can now kill this stupid tech tip. Thanks for being the guinea pig.

There are guys that use car color type paint or Rustolium but I chose engine paint because of the temperature rating and the resistance to harsh chemicals like gasoline.

Help me out guys...

I feel like oink oink ... j/k Actually I should be more descriptive. The technique worked out just ok on the first pass of painting...didn't mask the edge of the letters as sharply as one could have with masking tape, but looked fine from 5+ feet away. On the second pass I didn't thoroughly clean out the vaseline so paints didn't stick to some parts and this is where it became yucky. But I'm sure if one is patient enough things would come out better than ok...and if one was then might as well use the masking tape technique.

Yeah, he did a swirled paint job on an extra cover and now he is selling it. It would be cool for a black Max.
