question about fixing timing chain rattle for those who did it.

I was wondering how hard was it to replace the timiing chain tensioner? also did you have to replace the timing chain guide with it? I checked out the how to section and there was a write up. do you have a link to another write up with pics for those visual learner. thanks in advance

Check the stickies..........if it aint there, then get yourself a Nissan FSM. Or download this: http://members.dslextreme.com/users/...esm/a32-em.pdf .

I personally would replace the guide along with the tensioner.

If the FSM doesn't make sense to you......maybe its time to see a mechanic instead.

Which cover do you mean? If you mean just removing the tensioner cover then there's no way to remove the guide that i know of. You'd have to remove the entire timing cover for that.

If you have the cover off, everything to replace is easy. The new part number from nissan, for the tensioner, you will need to take the cover off because its a larger part and wont fit through the access door. It also requires a new guide as well.

When I did my water pump, I left my old tensioner in there. I figured to take the enitre cover off just to replace the tensioner wasnt worth it to me. While your in there, do the water pump as well.....good luck
