Caliper / Raybestos Quiet Stop Pad / Shim Question
Caliper / Raybestos Quiet Stop Pad / Shim Question
I just installed raybestos quiet stop pads, and I noticed that the pads seem to have a shim built in...do I still need to use a separate shim? On the rear, the pads also have a little metal nub on the back, and I had to rotate the caliper piston so that the nub would fit in one of the four notches on the piston...is this ok? I'm wondering if the piston needs to rotate while it goes in and out while operating, since the nub on the pad would block this. Any advice? Thanks a million,

A lot of pads come with the shims built in, so no you don't need to use separate shims.
The pad with the metal piece goes on the inside and the metal piece should be on the top. I had no problem with it interfering with the caliper or anything else.

the rear caliper piston needs to be turned to compress but will push out straight just like the front. you did it right. you can reuse the old shim if the new pads dont have them. i reused them on my 1st brake job, but tossed them after the 2nd and 3rd. no problems.
