Did I get ripped?

I have no access to the tools to do this job, and needed the work done asap.. that being said, I had my axle seals replaced, rear main seal replaced, and the shifter seal replaced. What do you think this work should cost me? I won't give the price yet and see what you guys think, then I'll chime in and say what I did pay. TIA.

I'd say about $300 for labor, excluding parts obviously.

Btw - both axle seals were replaced, and shifter bushing, and rear main seal. plus new fluid.

Depends on where you got the work done. At a dealer, I would say 1,000, an independent shop/mechanic 650-800. Prices include parts and labor.

$695. I think I did alright. Considering (from what I was told) the passenger side axle seal requires quite a bit of work. But since the trans had to be dropped anyways, I guess its not AS much. Idk.

This is why I hate front wheel drive cars. But that's how it is when you own a Maxima.

The rear main seal is the killer. You can pull the axles and drop the shifter arms in about an hour or two and replace those seals. But dropping the tranny, pulling the pressure plate and flywheel, and changing the main is much more work.

I'm guessing 6hours*$80/hour for over $500 total.

[edit] I should have read the rest of the thread - I guess I wasn't far off, if you add the parts and the fluid.

What shop did you get all this done at? I'm monitoring my rear main seal now and just want to know a reliable place just in case I don't want to change it myself b/c all these threads about how its a PIA is scarring me.

That seems fair,

Passenger axle seal = gota drop the tranny
Rear Main seal = total pain in the azz....gota take off the oil pan if Im not mistaking

Actually from what I understand

Drivers axle seal easy like you said
Passenger axle seal is a pita requires removing one of the motor mounts.
Rear main requires the trans to be dropped.

I got this done at a Getty repair shop located in Colonia, NJ on Inman ave.
