Metal Radio-Kit install......?
Metal Radio-Kit install......?
I Have a Question/ Idea. <this may be for the audio forumn but im looking for everyone's feedback please.
Im installing a aftermarket HU.
Now, The install kit eveyone sells is that cavalier plastic cheap trim kit.
Im sure everyone has used one and seen it many of times.
Q: Do they make a metal kit that actually looks good, something i could paint and make a nice finish on....?
I was considering sanding and using a body glaze across the Cheap-o plastic kit, then sanding, and then painting w/ enamal paint..
Any bright ideas on this project......
please no feedback with "just get a video screen blah blah..."

ok, show a picture of what you have, and what you want it to look like.
if you mean the single DIN opening that's left, they sell so many things to cover that up, you could just as well put 3 autometer gauges there.

Hey all..
Ok i dont have the Part/Piece yet but its just a simple Plastic mounting kit for the maxima, <we use it to install the aftermarket single-din headunits.>
-you have to know what im referring too... the plastic trim part.
-Someone post they didnt use a kit...? ~seriously, does ur cd player fall out when u drive.
*NEWAYS , i was wondering if they made a METAL Trim Mounting kit...
*Obviously if i had a dbl-din or a "pentium" whatever, I wouldnt need the kit...
-post only if ur over 21 please... do we need a babysitter..

If we can only post if we are over 21 then you my friend must leave, your age reads 7.
The pentium 4 referance is to the emblem on his climate control.
I have never seen a metal kit myself. Im sure there is a specialty one...or you can custom make it. Ive only seen plastic.

Anyone know of a user on here that has an awesome 1-din radio with something in the X-tra space... i was thinking guages but im not throwin down $$ on a volt meter guage or something.. Ive got 2 already that dont do anything great...
Oh well,, thanks all for you help.

Im following what ur saying i just usually see the trim of the kit sticking out around it... then again im thinkin of a honda trim kit..
I guess ive just never really seen a kit in someones car b/c no one has close pics of there HU unless its a screen there.. hmmm
thansk all.
I bought the pocket to fill in the bottom DIN from circuit city. You can find that stuff everywhere. BobJohnson, are you referring to the plastic trim that surrounds the radio's front panel (face)? That usually comes with the headunit right out of the box.
Also, my car came with bose and I never needed any installation kit. Headunits come out with the proper mounting holes so that it can be mounted w/o requiring a kit. No mounting kit = stock look.
