Adding more outlets

I want to add more electrical outlets to the car (XM, phone, DS, iPod). I bought one from radio shack and he told me I just needed a 10v wire.

Well, everything in the car is Amps and I have no idea where to look for a 10v wire.

Does anyone know where a good place to get 10v is?

PLEASE HELP,for some reason I cant start a thread can some start one for me PLEASE. My problem is: Just the other I put gas in and my car did not start, it make alot of clicking noises in the starter when i turned the key, eventually 5 minutes later it started. I was 350 miles away from home. The next morning again starter clicks but doesn't start. A few minutes later it starts. Decided to leave in the garage and borrow my dads truck. I figured the starter was going out, still original one my maxima is a 97 auto with 198,000. Well, I got a new starter and replaced it I didn't notice any loose wires or something out of the ordinary. When I tried to start it I got the same noises click, click, really fast. I checked the battery and I got 12.56volts. What gives? Any suggestions. Thanks great forum

10 volts to power the socket. I need a wire (I don't care what guage). The guy at radio shack said that I could use a 10amp fuse, but that didn't work.

Maybe I should go back to them

well your car uses a 12 volt system ( really around 14 volts) not 10 volts and if they dont know that then I would never walk into that store again.
first you need to know the draw (amps used) of the component that your going to use i.e. 2 amps 10 amp or 100amp whatever it is and that will tell you
a. what size wire to use
and
b. what size fuse you need
you also need to know that what ever you are going to hook up is going to work with a 12 volt neg. ground system.

And
DAMN!!

i believe you may have to wait till your post count gets to 15 before are able to start a thread due to the spyware problem of computers posting advertisments on the forums. as far as your clicking problem. as long as your sure the battery is ok and the starter is brand new. recheck the connections. a loose ground could be the issue. however it may be a bad relay. look under your hood youll see relays adn the cover is marked. look for ones that have anyhting to do with the starter or battery and check for proper operation via a voltmeter. if your not sure how to do that your better off taking it to nissan and paying them for a hour and having them tell you whats wrong. if they can fix it within that hour then have them do it but if they try to get you to go for another hour forget it. pay them for the hour, go to the parts desk and get the part yourself if its a relay. im sure we can help you get whatever part it is in or at least tell you the right way to do it.....

Damn, I already hooked the damn thing into my car and cut the power wire once or twice (maybe they won't notice).

Does anyone have an extra outlet installed in their car? What did you use?

I used a 4 outlet splitter made by street glow. However, what I did was tap it into the cigarette lighter wires behind the dash, leaving my cig. outlet free. Right now all I have plugged into it is my XM tuner, and my radar detector. I ran the wires for both of them behind the dash with the outlet so that you dont see any wires. If I need to plug my phone in I just use the original cig. lighter outlet. I upgraded my cig lighter fuse to 20A to handle the bigger load. I havent had any problems since.

Finally got it working.

Turns out it was a bad ground. Metal screw into metal, but I guess the metal didn't continue to the frame of the car. Used a self tapping screw to the metal edge behind the dashboard fusebox door.

Damn...I can't believe I didn't think of upgrading to a 20A fuse for my cig lighter. My 12V fuse always blows, probably because I have a cig lighter I bought from Autozone. I end up having to replace that stupid fuse every few weeks. Thanks buddy.

be very careful how big a fuse you put in there it could overload the wire and start a fire!!!!
