Gained 20 ft-lbs of torque...
by buying a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport...
found a pretty decent deal on a low mileaged jeep with optional awd. i've always wanted one and decided to go for it. i'm selling all the maxima parts/mods i have sitting around and parting out some of what's on the car and then selling it in the near future. i will miss it and would love to keep it too, but in reality that just wouldn't be practical or cost effecient for me. i have many great memories with the maxima and put a lot of time and heart into it trying to make it all that i thought it could be, and all in all i've been very happy with it. the only problems i've had really were all the sensors everyone seems to have to change, and i've always got a good deal on parts so i'd say i got my money's worth from it.
i just put a new battery and low mileaged starter on the maxima too and it's running great! that makes it hard for me to get rid of it and even get ready to sell it. i was about to put a body kit on it and hopefully be done modding because i didn't want much more with it, aside from maybe the 00vi. perhaps some day if i'm financially secure and able to buy another car, i'll look for a good condition 4th gen or i30 5 speed. i'd definately buy another! in fact, my friend just bought a nice one probably because i never stopped talking about my love for maximas. anyways, i'll still float around the forums, mainly OT and the f/s section but i'll pop in here from time to time. thanks for the memories and all the help. this site taught me most of what i know about cars and saved me tons of $$. now hopefully i won't catch the mod bug for the jeep! i'm already on the jeepforums website and those guys are crazy and really go all out on their cars! luckily for me, i get most jeep parts at cost if anything comes up.
these are the sellers pictures, i haven't taken any of my own yet but will get some on a cardomain:

and this is my pride and joy i'll soon be selling. i never got updated pics of the leather i30 interior.

I know this could (maybe should) be in the other cars or members ride section, but I just wanted to say bye for now...

i always loved cherokees and found a nice 01, the last year they made of that model. the maxima is nice, but the miles are getting up there and even though it is running strong, i'd like to let go of it before i have to deal with anything expensive like a transmission somewhere in the future. also, like i said, i have a jeep parts hook up and get everything at cost, if not free because i worked in a jeep parts distribution warehouse at one point and have a family member high up.
i was just ready for the change i guess...
it's nice being able to move stuff also with the fold down rear seat and trunk space.

sounds familiar...
I have a lifted 1998 jeep grand cherokee, on 35's. the suspension self-destructed, so i bought a max...
I guess i lost 20 ft-lbs, but i also lost about a thousand pounds...
watch out, you've probably heard the saying, "Just Empty Every Pocket". it's true.
Now i just gotta make sure i don't mod the max. it's already lowered, with a catback and a few other mods.
good luck, that's the best year to get a cherokee.

those are the sort of responses i guess i should have expected on here...apples and oranges as far as types of vehicles. the fuel economy really isn't that bad. it gets about 20-22 mpg highway and ~18-20 city, but i can fill up the 20 gallon tank using regular fuel...so it's really not that bad. many maximas on here often complain of worse fuel economy so i'm not complaining. i could have gone worse...
and like i said, if i do run into any problems, which i don't anticipate because it is mechanically sound at this point in time, i get parts at distributors cost and sometimes free, so i'm not worried.
and for the vultures, i have a thread in the appropriate forum dealing with parts for sale so please check there.
thanks to those wishing me goodluck...i know it's a different move than many of you would take, but i am happy with my decision and that's all that matters.

The Cherokees are actually very good. The Grand Cherokees with V8's are pieces of $hit. I have had 3 Grands all of them V8 and all of them suck big donkey reliability wise. BUT, I hear nothing but good stuff about the 6 cyl Cherokee and 6 cyl Grand Cherokee models.

no it's an automatic, but i like it. it's not practical for me to have a 5spd for a bunch of reasons. i can and like driving manuals, but automatics are what i'm sticking with until i can pick up a fun side/project car or later in life when i hit my mid-life crisis.
i6 is right! supposedly best engine jeep has made.
as far as $$, let's just say i got it for $1400 less than the actual blue book worth. crappy Taxachusetts RMV taxes you on the 'worth of the car' instead of the price you paid so i paid more for registration/sales tax junk...but overall picked it up for a decent price and like i said, i love it!
most likely selling the maxima for about $3,500. it's hard to get much more than that even though we know they are worth it.
Dang, look at the lines on that jeep! Boy you can drive through some deep ****, stuff alot of junk in the back, waste more gas , take turns like a real champ and get the whole shot every time with all that torque!
You will miss the max when it's gone. Suv is a change of pace, would be nice to keep both.

My summer boss in lowell, has one exactly like your jeep... and every single day he would come by, he would tlak about his jeep... damn he loves that car...
JUST A FUN FACT: you can drive that right through the beache sand dune
(he did that)

I can understand why some people may not understand the move from Max to the jeep, but you have a passion for the jeep more than the max, plus being able to get parts at a huge discount or even free v+ the good deal on a mechanically sound 01, sounds like a sweet setup.
Cause if I was ever able to get a mechanically sound 03Z Black, burn orange interior + good deal on parts . . . The max would become a garage queen.
GOod Luck.

don't get me wrong, because i do love maximas, but i really don't understand the degree of obsession some of you really have. 4th gens and maxes in general are nice, but they're not God's gift to the automotive industry. truth of the matter is, my car is going on 11 years old...i added leather and did my best to update it and make it to my liking, but my tastes changed and i desired something different and newer with low miles. i wouldn't call a 15 second car a luxury or sport sedan really. maybe at some point and in some ways they are better than many cars in their class, but these days they're aging and there are other cars out there that are just as good if not better.
i don't want this thread to go in this direction, but i don't get why people have to **** on something i'm happy about. as nismos14 said above, all makes of cars have their share of problems or issues. being on the .org for going on 4 years, i've seen that maximas TOO can have many problems, so don't try to act like they're flawless and i bought a POS.
i guess i should /thread before i take dumb comments to heart and before you guys try to sour my feelings on my new ride. i like it, i made the choice and i stand by it. maybe i should have known better to post here and should have stuck to the OT forum or other cars forum where people are more courteous and open minded, ah well...

a maxima is a maxima, jeeze. some of the guys are infatuated with their cars. i think the only good thing about the max is the extreme reliability of the VQ motor. Nothing more. everything else breaks, rattles, and squeaks.
hey man, you gotta like what you drive and thas it........dont matter what others think.....I love my max but i also love my camry about the same, only difference is camry is my dads daily driver so cant really touch it...whatever u like and get........be happy with it and Good Luck....getting a car for most of us is a preety big deal and to hear others talk crap can make this happy time horrible and really make us double think our instincts.....have fun with the Jeep........take it off road a couple of times and let us know how it was....
What did you expect on Maxima.org...you didn't want a car...gas prices suck. I have had two S10 Blazers and one Bravada so I can understand wanting a change. I wanted cheaper gas bills for myself, 10-15 mpg sucked. So many parts available for Jeeps....just expect to spend more on gas, you know.
