Beating Up on MAX
Beating Up on MAX
Hey guys, recently after getting a VB mod, Y-pipe, and hacking my air box, I've been kinda beating up on my max. I mean its just so much more fun to rev her up with the new mods. I had been babying her and keeping the revs between 2-3k but now every now and then i give her anywhere from 4-6k. I just wanted to know how our maximas handle abuse. I had a Cavalier (not trying to compare to max lol) and after abusing her for a couple of years she quit on me. I just want your thoughts on how your max has handled abuse over the years.

beating on your car is about the worst thing you can do. drive hard is one thing but beating the crap out of it every where you go, off every green light and all that isnt good it will catch up to you. driving hard every now and then is ok just dont beat on it 24 7. these cars werent built or that.
Some tips to keep the corporal punishment on your Max from becoming capital punishment:
1. Make sure to keep it under 2500 rpms before the car is at operating temperature.
2. Add a transmission cooler.
3. Use high quality synthetic motor oil and transmission fluid.
4. Keep an eye on coolant temp and make sure it is regularly flushed and replaced.
I will add that my max has been very good to me, mainly because the previous owner was my mother. Car was driven 20 miles each way to work, garaged at both locations, and occasionally used for long highway trips. So no beating = healthy car.

So basically if i'm on top of things when it comes to maintenance work then I'm ok to enjoy the max once in a while. The reason i asked is that i've been really good to her but at the same time i realized that i didnt buy a max so i could drive it like a granny. I love my car to death but i also want to enjoy driving it.
PS. love the sound of the hacked air box...nice deep growl

It also matters how old it is, the older it gets you have to take care of it more. You don't want rev your engine with a trans that has like 200k miles on it, it might ruin it.
Obviously beating on a car will do more damage than driving it casually. How YOUR car will react to the abuse is anyone's guess. It could handle it without problems for a year or your tranny can go tommorow, there are just too many factors. If you drive stick, make sure that you are driving "properly" when you beat it, improper shifting will send your max to the grave. Oh yeah, have fun.
Beat on any car and it'll quit on you, even if you drive a Ferrari. Once in a while isn't bad but it's still bad. The older the car gets, the less abuse it will be able to tolerate because all the parts and internals in the engine, suspension, and drivetrain are worn or torn down. The older the car gets, the more regular maintenance becomes crucial. Synthetic lubricants is best in high mileage engines and trannies, less wear and tear. But I always think twice everytime I think about taking on a challenge at a light.
I killed an 00-01 Sentra tonight...unintentionally. I had just gotten off a freeway and sitting at a light, the Sentra egged me on. Not usually into entertaining such things, I figured I'd put the hurtin' on the guy. I usually have no tolerance towards cocky kids behind the wheel. I had good launch, I hooked up the tires real good, took her to 6000 rpms on first and then slammed it to 2nd gear and I was gone. I love my STS, quicker shifting means you get up there quicker. I heard some kind of a BOV noise coming from the Sentra. I was confused about whether he is boosted or if he had one of those ricer BOV-wannabe gadget. It was so funny that an almost stock Maxima, that is 5 years older than his, woooped his butt.
