$600 for my exhaust - reasonable?

I have a 98 gxe with 170k miles on my maxeene.

I went for a trip and came back to find out my sis had gone over something on the highway and the exhaust pipe from the bottom cracked.

MERLINS muffler and brake service charged me $600 for a whole new pipe from THE CAT BACK..... is that too high? average? i know its not low!

(Im in chicago JUST incase ppl know the mechanics around here)

Sounds like he already paid the $600. Might have been a better question to ask before getting

Yeah man, get the greddy sp2 close to 500 shipped. Forget that price, don't even bother calling them or going there, save your gas.

If you already paid, try to get a refund lol, because $600 is way too much.

You got ripped off - I think even Midas does it cheaper than that, but a better option would've been an indep exhaust shop (lots of smaller ones around Chicago)

Doubt you'll get a refund, but next time ask us local people first http://forums.maxima.org/forumdispla...aysprune=&f=24

A car that's worth no more than $3,000 is not worth spending $600 for exhaust...that's if $600 was even reasonable to start with...

obviously, like everyone else has said, you could get a better-flowing aftermarket exhaust for less than that. you could have probably gone to Joe's Garage and have him hook you up for maybe half that with stock-size piping. Oh well, live and learn. Don't even worry about it. It happens to everyone. (Speakin from personal experience... )

Firestone gave me the same price... I was like: Yeah, not so much. Funk that man Im waitin on a check and then Im prob gonna get somethin from greddy. I dont wanna really spend that much but Id rather pay it on a greddy than some half @ss OEM replacement or the cheap pacesetter catback...
