Questions regarding brake pads selection

Hello all,

I have a 96 Infiniti I30 (Same as 4th gen Maxima) and in need of brake pads. Typically for street use (mostly highway commute), what are some of the better brakes with good value? I came across PBR/Axxis Deluxe pads for pretty cheap, do they have good quality?

TIA

OEM, Raybestos QuietStops... those are the best for regular driving (IMHO).

OEM for the win!

If you are not going to do any road coarse racing then just use OEM. They will be much quieter, less rotor wear, and less dusting than aftermarket pads. I had Axxis Ultimates on my car and they ate my rotors, dusted like crazy, and started to squeak very early on. Dont get me wrong though. They were great pads IF I needed that kind of stopping power on a regular basis. Now its nothing but OEM pads on my car.

(no).

OEM pads are less than 50 bucks... you can't beat them - thats what I use.

Check any of the online parts dealers (jerry rome, pinnacale, Garrands Nissan etc.).

50 bucks for F and R? Are they the same as Infiniti pads? I've found Infiniti OEM pads for far mor expensive.

Axxis Deluxe should be softer and more rotor-friendly than the Ultimate, no?

Yes - 50 bucks for each set. The Maxima pads from 95-99 should be identical to the infiniti pads...

$50 for each set = $100 for F and R.

Axxis Deluxe Plus are $59 shipped for me.

For front and rears?

I would still go the OEM route, but that is just me.

Once bitten, twice shy.

That's what I thought, I'm going for the Axxis Deluxe Plus then, $59 shipped for all 4 corners, can't beat that price.

No such thing as a free lunch. Cheaper $ cost upfront, but what about overall performance?

If you really want cheap, you can pick up pads for 15 bucks a set at your local auto chain store.

Axxis Ultimates dust and squeel like mad. However, stopping power was noticeably improved over OEM. I will probably try Hawk HPS next time around.

Ultimate is track/street pad, deluxe is pure street pad. You can't compare those.

Axxis is a well know brand with good reputation, please don't compare it with no name autozone pads.

It's up to you. You've decided that Axxis Deluxe are worth a try. I was not equating Axxis Deluxe with the cheapies at Autozone... I was purely giving you other options (if price was your major driver).

For me personally, I go through pads every 40k or so, which I hit every 2.5yrs. So I'm willing to spend the extra 40 bucks for OEM pads given it's such an infrequent expense. I know for sure my pads won't squeal, ruin my rotors, etc, and I definitely don't have the time to keep trying to fix any issues. I like to do the job once and be done with it.

Let us know how those pads work out for you - and post the source - so others can benefit from your research.

Cheers.

FYI, I have HPS on my other car, 97M3, yes it's great, but it's also pricey compared to the Axxis Deluxe Plus I got for the Infiniti.

Thanks for the info, I sure will post my thoughts on the Axxis pads.

OT:
I don't understand why search function is disabled for everyone except paid members. This essentially makes alot of important info completely lost, not to mention people asking the same questions over and over. I'm sure this topic that I asked has been covered numerous times, but without search function, I have to create a new post.

Just go with a OEM type ceramic pad, ceramic is quiet, hardly any dust and they will be good for what you want them for.

I understand, but reposting many questions over and over also increases bandwidth useage.
