anyone with LED's in manual climate control

For the bulb that lights up the top row of buttons, how did you get it to evenly disperse? It just mainly lights up the middle multi-level button. I even tried using two bulbs and pointed them diagnolly in a v shape to light towards the outer edges, and it helped a little but not that much. I know in the how-to it says to sand the bulbs, but exactly where and how much. Thanks for any help. Heres a pic if it helps.
