Push button

Has anyone put a push button on there NiMax? I think I read somewhere that something with the ignition is faulty on the maxima so instead of replacing the ignition thing just put push buttons in. Reason for asking is when I turn the key sometime nothing happens, lights and antenna come on and other times it fires right up so ????????

I've never seen this on a 4th gen, and personally, I'd avoid it. I just don't feel too secure about making it that much easier for my car to be stolen. I'd just replace the ignition switch.

My father-in law did it in my wifes 96 Plymouth Breeze. He hooked it up so you still had to have the key. So you turn the key to like the on possition then push the button. I would sugest putting the button somewhere not in the open. Not sure how he did it step by step but I culd find out if you need to do this. Just let me know.

Exactly what purpose does it serve if you still not only need the key, but to have it one position away from IGN?

Seems entirely useless to me.

not sure but someone told me once that when you turn the key to start, the engine adds more fuel than usual. some people do the ignition button when adding turbos so they dont have to flip the key. instead they push the button so it the engine doesnt flood itself. correct me if im wrong.

when u turn your key to start the car, it triggers the ecu to send more fuel to help start the motor. when you start with the push button, it does add more fuel than usual.

Im looking into gettin a push button, but its stupid if you have to use a key. I want to by-pass the key and just have a hidden switch to arm/disarm the ignition instead.

I dont think the flooding the engine thing is true.

That is only with very big injectors and if you do not have a good tuning control computer to hold them from flooding on cold start.

If you do not have bigger injectors then there is no practical advantage to having a pushbutton, but it probably would be cheaper than actually fixing the problem. Personally I would rather fix the problem though.

I just thought it'd be something fun to do. I don't believe you can bypass not using the key. you have to turn it to the ON position then push the button

I had a old Z car wired to a push button (ing switch was $180) simple to wire if your going to keep your key (better theft protection) All the switch does is send a 12v signal to the starter to engauge the starter motor. You can tap the wire at the ing switch. However I would not waste my time, switch from Nissan is like $25 and it takes 10-15 min to change.
You could eliminate the key if you wanted to remove the steering lock and power the switching systems with a remote relay pack. It would be alot of work and may be eaiser to steal since if they get it started they can drive away with out the key. However if properly thought out you could make the car much more secure that stock, with the exception of the steering lock.
