98 trans on 96???

hi...
my transmission is all out..slippin and everything
i found a 98 transmission...
will this fit?? and work properly??

the mechanic said though that he called Nissan and they said it will fit perfectly but it might not work properly....
do you guys think that the transmission control unit are different???
like any kinds of problems with electrical or computers??
