Performance mods before cosmetic mods, however, I would take a clean stock car over a mildly worked bucket, as I am into detailing.

I would do performance first, and then work on looks. After all looks change with time, but usually you don't want to change performance parts, so I'd get that out of the way first.

I just thought about this two days ago when I saw a Sunfire with about $2,000 in body kit and appearance mods (neon, shaved handles, whale tail,ect...) . I thought, I could beat the poop out of this guy at a stop light and I spent $2.47 on wax to make mine look better than that car.

half the fun of having a maxima is for it's sleeper quality. why make it look modified and give away the game

love the sleeper quality but its hard not to improve appearance. just keep it lookin smooth, nothin too gawdy with the looks.
too me, draggin some cocky/unsuspecting ricers is enough "look" for me.

There aren't any freeways around here and my car rarely see's above 4000 rpm's so I decided to focus more on looks. I guess it all depends how fast you enjoy driving and if you're satisfied with your stock performance or not.

I would just want the "drop" to keep it dynamic in some ways and maybe a lip, but anything else besides that makes the car look ricey (as other people say). Performance for me, SPEEDING is FUN!!

maintenance first (if you need an exhaust and plan on upgrading then do the y and b pipe.

but so long as the engine cranks over and runs properly i wanna look good.

It all depends. If you're 5spd, then performance shouldnt really be a problem since you can probably outrun many cars on the road these days. Also, you need to be lowered in order for a kit to look good on your car. 17s/18s are a good addition to being lowered in order to look good. Personally, I just try to make my car look clean with tint, shaved trunk, nice wax job. Saving up for a drop, and since im 5spd, I don't really need that many performance mods to enjoy my car since its already hard enough to get traction in 1st. If you're auto though, I would just say screw it and get the kit and dtop, since it would take too much money to get close to the performance of a stock 5spd.

i made my car look pretty, but now i regret it since i wish i had spent the money to make it faster.

once you beat on your car you dont really care how it looks . i mean when my car gets scratched and shiet, its like whatever now, cuz shiet happpens. once i got my performance im happy.

i mean you got the body kit and paintjob, some ********s going to hit you, or scratch your car. i know from experience

Ahhh the never ending dilema... looks or speed. If Nissan had used a higher quailty paint, this would be a no-brainer. I need a paint job and I'm sure many of us do, so thats where my vote went.

So true.

For me, except a getho bumper mesh grill and clear bumper lights, nobody could tell that it's not stock

I love the look of my car with the drop, kit and murnao rims, but the supercharger owns all (looks, turbo owns sc'er). Go with performance first.

If you hang out in the A32 forums, you're into looks.

If you visit the AM or FI forums, and actually know or at least have a slight clue you're talking about... well, then you like performance. Nuff said ...

I'll take stock 15's, drag radials, and a blower, over tint and a system anyday!! Heck I almost bought a 5-speed turbo minivan to make into a drag monster, solely for the sleeper factor!

Riiiight. Well, do whatever makes you happy obviously. Personally I would rather a decent looking car to begin with (like a 4th gen Max) that had some ***** under the hood. Think about it this way: looks (which you may grow to hate later) please you when you're looking at your car from outside (of it). Performace mods please you when you're driving. Which one are you doing more?

performance all the way. hell if i wanted looks i wouldnt be building what i am. you cant get much looks out of a 1973 pinto. but throw a small block 302 in there and your off. as for the max. im happy with tien s-techs, magnaflow catback, and catco cat. but does anyone know where to get a good cold air intake? and a good LSD?

Gah... Its always a bit tough. I needed the car to look pretty good to keep me motivated to keep modding it. I think Rims should be the first thing anyone does. Biggest looks gain for the bucks. I grabbed rims and Black altezza tails, threw some new bulbs all around and a nice Red Sox "B" on th eback window... Ive been stopped at redlights and got pretty cool feedback just from thos mods. I need a new exhaust so im upgrading there and Im pretty close to putting a Y pipe on there too...Maybe a intake and then some light tint and Im done. Basically, its all balance.

Looks... because all you really need to make the 4th gen look sweet as **** is tints, rims, and skirts/lips. Thats what... $2.5K and you got one of the sweetest looking 4th gens out there. While $2.5K isn't going to get you too much power, because you'd need to upgrade handling first.

first of all, i wuold never waste my own money on a body kit (their for ricers) or a paint job on a now almost 10 year old car. If its coming from insurance, sure, but not my pocket. i have to admit, i bought my max with lots of scratches and dings. but every day when i see kids keying cars and doors getting slammed into the car right next to, i know i wont get mad when it happens to me. You probably dont go to high school anymore though and none of this applies.

anyways, you can tackle both at once, say by getting springs to lower it and by getting rims. and unless you seriously want to run at the track or are really dying for that vroom in the tail pipe, dont waste your money man!

rims+lower+tint.

I would say basic boltons first (intake, exhaust). I guess it just depends on where people live too. A car with a body kit or that looks cool is like the coolest **** in town. Sometimes i get myself buying looks over performance just because another performance mod just might get me in trouble.

There's hardly ever any races in my town, nor tracks close to my area, so to spend ALL the money on performance mods to make your car faster on the road seems a little overated. I would rather walk up to my car loving how it looks everytime i get in it and get looks from people, then have money invested under the hood and never use it. Now if i were in a city where i can put a bunch of ricers in their place, then hell yeah, mevi+ecu+nitris all the way.

But for me bolt on's>looks(wheels, kit etc)>then MEVI, ECU, Super

Whats best?:
1.- Win a race against a civic by 2 car lengths
or
2.-Win a race against a civic by 10 car lenghts

i hope ur not referingt to me...but everyone has to start somewhere.....my simple point is that a little bit of both can go along way for you to enjoy your ride......most of my mods right now are suspension and its not for looks its for auto-x and the occasions trip to the Glen.....this comming summer is brake upgrade and prolly y-pipe and VI of some kind....then we will see hoe funds go and might just get a kit...stillen lip skyline sides

i'd say get the suspension n rims first. If you get the suspension, ur gonna be so low that you're not gonna wnat a body kit cause its jsut a waste of money since it'll prob crack within a year. you don't want an intake cause it does nothing. I vote on true coilover system, nice rims, tints, y-pipe, n if you have money left over a mevi.

My point exactly. Lowering the car is performance too because it tightens up the suspension therefore the car will perform better and handle those corners better. Also rims are also a performance mod. Think about it. Wider tires, more ground covered, better stability and steering response. Sounds like performance to me.

I totally agree. I am not just into straight line acceleration, that's why I'm doing it once and doing it right and going with full coilovers. K-sports and D2's go for 800$ shipped, well worth it if you ask me.

Another major performance upgrade for me is weight reduction. My target is to get the car down to 2680-2700 lbs this year. Reducing weight isn't just to get the car faster, weight is a car's worst enemy. Braking, handling, acceleration, less stress on the drivetrain parts. You wouldn't believe how well a max with simple stock brakes, stock 15's and ABS brakes at 2700 lbs.

Hang out in certain forums, but never post because you're trying to take it all in, and do your own searching before posting some ****.

What exactly are you saying? If it's what I think it is...

--->Wheels/tires/97+ conv w/lips, painted/installed for a grand? Sick deal, the wheels and tires alone should be ~ 1k.. Maybe maybe not... but you are not lowered, or at least you did not mention it
