I read the HOW TO'S amd it looks fairly simple, I was wondering if other OG member have done this and can share their experiences. I can get the starter with 10 tooth for like $150 with core exchange. The Firestone tole me like $475 to do it.... Thanks for any opinions...

it's not hard at all...hardest part i found was just getting the bolts out and then back in...make sure your ground is in there good otherwise you'll find yourself swearing and angry when it doesn't start. overall pretty easy and straightforward process. goodluck and don't give your money away.

 

Very easy. I have done two. A breaker bar is a big help to get enough torque to get those two bolts out. Other than that, its simple. Just gotta take out stock airbox to gain access is all. Save yourself the money and do it yourself .

easier than changin your oil.

Just remove the airbox and the starter sits right on top of the tranny towards the firewall. Remove the wires connected at the top of the starter itself, then follow the thin wire down to a clip. Disengage that clip in order to remove the starter.

After disconnecting all wires, remove the 2 bolts holding in the starter, one is 14mm and the other 17 mm if i remember correctly.

Pull it straight out and VOILA!

Installation is of course, reverse directions. :-D

If you just had the motor running for a little while be careful... that sucker AND THE BOLTS get freakin hot as ballls

its very easy. me n two of my buddies did mine a couple weeks back. it took us like 45minutes to do the whole thing. the only problem i had was the starter relay was bad as well. check into that as well. it could cause u to break down.

Thanks EVERYONE. I knew it was easy from the HOW TO section. And I wasn't about to pay $475 for them to do it when I can save like $300 if I do it myself..

dang, it took me 3 hours to do it! i guess b/c it was my first starter to ever replace & it was at nite in a pkg garage. it sure was better than getting a tow. it is fairly easy, though. But now, i've got my EGR hose unconnected & can't find the connecting hose anywhere in there, so i'd recommend putting labels or colored zip-ties on your hoses to make reconnection easier.

Whats the difficulty level of changing the alternator? Might have to tackle this next weekend.

 

Put it this way...it's so easy, a girl could do it!

My husband just did mine last week (I didn't work on it as I had to go get the starter at the parts house) but I saw what he did and if I had to change it again, I would just get in there and do it myself.

 

I changed mine a few years ago and don't remember having any problems. The only difficult part was paying $230 for a new one.
