I'm tired of searching

I have searched and searched and i can't figure out how to reset my CEL. I replaced my knock sensor yesterday because it had been throwing a code, but after i replaced it, the CEL stayed on. Do i need to reset this, or is something else wrong?

ECU sticky - not sure how hard you searched

The KS won't cause the CEL to go on(it will store a code, but not turn on the light) - so you have at least one or more codes still stored in the ECU. Go to autozone, have them retrieve all the codes and then report back.

That's the problem with newbies in this org, they claim they have searched everywhere. I really don't know how they get by in life if they can't do one simple thing like searching for information.

lol njmodi... Pieps if you find the "how to resset ECU" in the stickies you should also find a writeup on how to search for codes stored on your ECU without having to go visit autozone (just saving you the trip ... Hint it has to do with the words "clockwise - counterclockwise").

shortly after that you should find a table with all possible codes defined... - good luck

I did go down to Auto Zone and had it checked, and it was code 0304, the knock sensor code. The guy there said that it might be frozen over (since it was winter) or it could have gone bad. He said to wait until it got warmer to see. After a few 50 and 60 degree days, the light was still on, so i replaced it. Now it is still on and i can't figure out what i did wrong, or if it just needs to be reset. It was only throwing one code when i got it checked.

I'll say this once more - there is at least one more code (other than the KS) stored in the ECU.

If you feel like putting in the effort to read the ECU how-to sticky, you'll be able to retrieve ALL codes and reset the ECU.

In general, after replacing a part indicated as bad by a CEL/ECU code, you have to clear that code from the ECU (i.e. reset the ECU).

And the autozone guy is talking out of his a$$.

How the hell could you have searched and searched and not found how to reset the ecu??? C'mon Seriously.

Or maybe it could be found because its STICKIED at the top of the section!

If you have codes your ecu light will stay on no matter how many times you reset it. Pull codes via sticky method (or autozone, advanced), fix it, reset ecu via sticky method or disconnect battery for about an hour.

Jeez . . .

i think it was proposed about a year ago that we just remove the stickies.. because noobs (who its intended for..being that it's FAQ / general information) skip right over it...

i say remove the 10 post requirement before posting a topic (forgot what the # was) for noobs and instead have a timer attached to their username, and have them spend 20 minutes of scrolling through the stickies..

Even better idea.... confine the newbies to just the forum stickies for 72 hours. Then limit them to the 10 or 15 post requirements before they can start their own thread. But if I was the supermoderator, I'd enforce a 30-post requirement instead.

agreed... even better would be a voice recording of them swearing over the bible that they read all the stickies "to the best of their knowledge" and will not ask n00b questions under the penalty of being lynched by the board members.
