Starting problems lately.

This past week, I have had issues with starting the car. It would start, then immediately die. If I push the gas a little after I start it, it will go as usual. The car doesn't cut off or run rough after it starts. It only happens on cold starts (after the car has sat overnight) and doesn't happen on warm starts.

I have replaced the following items: MAF sensor, Coolant Temperature Sensor (the ECU one), and PCV valve (was bad).

The problem is still there. Btw, the car had no problems starting until I put in some BP from a station I never use. Could it be the gas or something else? Anyone else have this problem or can give me suggestions? Thanks in advance for your responses. I've been searching all weekend, maybe there's something I missed.

Btw, I always put in 93 Shell, Mobil, or BP. Thanks again.

Clean out the throttle body and idle air control valve... that should help with cold starts.

Did you take it out of the car, or clean it while on the car. I've also read that the IAC valve is many pieces that can drop an get lost, is that right or wrong?

Hi there: I have a nice write up on page 2 of the 4th gen forum. Thread is entitled "car hesitates to start - NO CEL." You also mentioned that you replaced your MAS. How did you know your old one was bad? Sometimes, the wires going to the plug can break and make owners think the sensor is bad. In addition, if you have installed a new one, make sure you clean out the connector and push it in until it clicks tight. Otherwise, it could vibrate lose and that will make your engine stall as well.

Good luck!!

My mechanic removed the throttle body today and cleaned it up properly. The car revs smoother, idle is very stable , problems went away. Let's hope it stays that way. The tiny pinhole in it was very clogged up. Glad I didn't spend more money on sensors.
