Y- Pipe Install Question

talked to my mechanic and he said depending on the size of the y-pipe (i think the diameter of the pipe coming from the headers) he would have to remove the stock cat converters to fit the pipe and he would have to intall a more heavy duty cat converter to keep the car from failing emissions.
i have the budget y-pipe is that capable of fitting to the stock cat converter?

I'm pretty sure all the y-pipes out there will fit just fine with the cat converter. My budget fit just fine...

No need to replace the cat. Yes you lose two pre-cats, but they are only needed when your main cat is still cold and not working efficiently.

The y-pipe should be a direct bolt-on. Just take it to a muffler shop.

my budget fit just fine. i did it myself in my garage with a few tools. i would advise you to do it yourself also. most shops around me wouldn't do it because it removes the pre-cats and they didn't want to be held liable for that. changing the cat should not be an issue either. if anything, have him loosen the bolts between the cat and the y-pipe and possible the ones on the headers if you are having a hard time gettin them to budge. the rust down there can be unreal someimes!
