i used 194 bulbs in place of the old ones. I took out the old bulbs, and dremeled the holes to make them bigger. Then soldered the connections.

no need to dremel, just put the bulbs in from the other side and use something to hold them in...

Uh, I think you need to read more carefully....my first post was asking if anyone has knowledge of where I can find some really bright blue 74 LEDS, and, if they used regular 74 bulbs by themselves (i.e. no wedge base), how they positioned modified them to make it work. The second post, this post, is specifically asking if anyone has actually changed the 74 to 194s in order to take advantage of the greater light output available in both 194 stock and 194 aftermarket LED form.

BTW, guys like you on this forum who think its their duty to police and ridicule others makes me sick. I need help, we all need help, it's not like you were born with your maxima knowledge. geez. If you don't have anything productive to add, don't post.

Yeah, but you didnt have to create two threads in regards to basicly the same thing, blue LEDs in your cluster.
Both threads could have been comtained in one, you just have to ask two differnet questions in the one thread.

Wait...lol...you people are soldering your 194's in? Hmm...dunno where you live. This is what I did:

I went to pepboys...bought some basic blue 194's. They turned white (light emitted) after about 3 hours of use. Went back to pepboys..got LED blue 194's...to dark...almost purple. Went to Wal-Mart...got GE Plastics Red 194's. Guess what...3 weeks later...still look the same when I put them in. No soldering, nothing like that. Here are some pics of my current set up:

Granted...they aren't really bright thanks to my phone. But at night they look good. Not to bright, and defintly not dark. I did the white, red, white, red, red look because I wanted to make the impressions that as the RPM's, Speed, or Temperature get "dangerously high"...it becomes "red alert".

Hope this answered your question.

I get the impression from http://www.richardjasaitis.com/MaximaDash.htm which is located in the "how to" sticky, that the 194 bulbs are the ones that fit behind the gauges. No mention of cutting or soldering, just plug and play.

He has a point there. I mean its 2 questions in 1 general topic. I don't think he was trying to be a butt about it. Just asking why. You should see an example of being a butt about it in the y-pipe thread that has to do with a z-pipe =P

The thread starter has a 98, 98-99 take #74 LEDs plug and play, not 194. this is why they have to solder them in, or dremel holes. research some more man

Me researching 74's would have been a waste of my time since I don't require the use of them.

no crap.

you asked why the people were soldering them in. everyone who said they were soldering 194s in had 98's or 99s. they were soldering them because only 74 is plug and play in 98-99.

Hey man, not a dumb question.....the 95-97 Maximas use a bulb size of 194 in the gauge lights; 98-99 use the 74 size bulb. I have a 98 max and the light output I get with 74 size bulbs is weak, whether I go with incandescents or LEDs that are ALSO size 74. 194s are a bigger bulb, and from what I've seen, they are much brighter than any 74 size bulb replacement (again, only from what I've seen, could be wrong). That is the point of my post, I just want the brightest gauge lights I can get that are reasonable and practical.
