Flywheel upgrade or MEVI
#2
I've done the flywheel and it really helps get the RPM's get up to redline faster. I got a UR flywheel, I believe it's around 7lbs?
MEVI is cool too, but when and if I do that, I'll do a 00vi instead of MEVI.

I meant to say oovi
Heres another kunundrum. the unorthodox website says that for every pound you take off the crank you add 2.7 HP. I think it's bollsheet. You go from a 20lb flywheel to a 5 lb flywheel, so thats 15lbs cut from crank thats a 40HP gain, wehoo!
what do you think?

I think you're a misniformed newbie that only thinks ricer math works.
Nothing when modding these cars works especially at the power levels most of us are at. Companies will do anythingto sell their product.
I can tell you midpipe gave me 18whp peak... Would you believe me or call
and say it was a spike on the dyno?

Hah don't believe everything you read about reducing weight on a websites that sells things that reduce weight. Not exactly an unbaised opinion.
Anyways the physics of rotating masses dictate that the gains from lightening the rotating mass (in this case a flywheel) reduce as you go up in the gears. 1st gear a flywheel is fairly noticeable, 2nd gear a little less, 3rd gear less still, 4th and 5th you won't even know it's there.
Personally I'm not a big fan of lightened flywheels, they are fairly useless as far as straight line acceleration is concerned, they help a little bit in the lower gears but there are better ways to spend your $400. If you autoX or road race your car it might be worth it for rev matching, it does make that easier.
MEVI is sortof a "situational" mod, if you like doing highway racing do alot of highway driving it'd be worth getting, if you plan on getting an ECU it'd be worth getting, if you don't do alot of high speed racing then it's pretty pointless. It loses some low end power and gains some high end power.
00VI doesn't lose any low end power, but still gains high end power so it's a better mod, but it's also more complicated to install. Depends on your mechanical ability.
What are your current mods and what are your plans for your car that can help people advise you which mod to get.

Well, you're putting these two mods in the same price range, which I really don't think is fair. My reasons: UNLESS you are installing yourself, you're looking at a good $500 for the install of a flywheel, since you have the tranny out, you might as well throw in another clutch too. Soon your $400 flywheel upgrade jumps to over $1000.
On the other hand, a MEVI or 00VI can be had for less than $500 (an overestimate IMO, but that gives you some room to get all of the necesities as well.) Install shouldn't be nearly as much if that's the route you choose, and it's something you can probably feel more confident in installing the VI rather than a flywheel, so it opens up a DIY factor (that is, if you weren't planning on installing yourself before).

The only reason I'd reccommend a flywheel over a 00vi would be if we're in danger of running out of 00vis (I haven't gotten one yet). Go 00vi. You will notice it in all gears more than flywheel.
