$1500 Black 4th Gen

As reads above: there is a 4th gen Maxima for sale here in town for $1500. My friend and I are going to go take a look at it while we're out racing in a few minutes. Anyone know why it would be so cheap or if there are any big, common problems? I have a 3rd gen VG that I have upgraded almost as much as you can (still need light-weight pulley), nautrally aspirated, and plan on buying a 4th gen next...so maybe this is the break I've been looking for, or maybe a money pit?

Also... is it even worth it if its an auto?

Where does one go racing at this time of the night? I hope it's not on the street

And whether or not the car is a good deal for 1500 bucks depends on what condition, miles, Just telling us there's a 4th Gen for sale for $1500 doesn't mean squat.

I bought my beater 4th gen for $1100 with about 170k miles on it. Has messed up paint, some dents in the hood that were pulled out, spraypainted fender, had a really nasty interior, suspension and bushings are worn out, and bad coilpacks. I played dumb about the coilpacks, I knew what the problem was instantly when I drove it. I drove it home, put in my extra set of coilpacks from my previous 4th gen, and have been happily driving it ever since. Even took it to the track a time or two for fun. It's got like 185k on it now and still running strong (knock on wood).

Knowing as much as I do about 4th gens I knew I would buy the thing no matter what was wrong with it after I called him and confirmed that the $1200 asking price and the model year in the newspaper were not typos, unless it were so damaged as to be unfixable for a reasonable amount of money.

haha, yeah. i just said the same thing to myself...the working tranny and engine together are worth $1500 just for being in a car already, if they are both in good condition. + it will be a new project car; 4th gens and up have a lot more mods for them. so hopefully theyll call me back and ill go from there.

I agree. I've learned a lot about car in general but espeically about the Max. If I saw a cheap car liket he one you saw, I would pick it up. There are plently of places to get trannies if needed, coil packs, KS, o2 sensors,

I would go for it, Keep it in the garage or out of the way and work on it when you get parts.

Price means nothing, look at the car test drive it, have you or mechanic check it out. There are cheap parts everywhere, just know what your getting into. 1500 is for a 95 or 96 really isn't that low, if you look around you will find many around that price.

Well you would have gotten if you had paid 1500 hoping to get just the engine... since you can VQ30s all day for ~500 bucks at car-parts.com.

Keep looking lots of 4th Gens out there...
