rear defroster switch bulb

So i took out the bulb b/c it seems to have burned out. I brought it to the dealer and this fukcing arrogant @sshole at the counter begins to tell me that I have to get a whole new switch and that this little blue condomed bulb within its own white rubber housing is not available by itself...arent these the exact same bulbs that are in the climate contol etc? I thought it was a little 4 dollar buylb or something. He wanted to cahrge me 35 dollars for a rear defogger switch. He then told me that now that i took the switch apart "good luck getting it back together. I told him it wasnt rocket science and that he should learn some customer service skills. fat P.O.S. anyway, now that i vented, I dont want to go the led route b/c I dont want one really bright degogger swithc and then the rest of my dash stock. and no- i dont want to redo my car all led. So whats the deal with this bulb?

Call up Courtesy Nissan - they'll get you the bulb (if it's available).

Well it must be a 12V filament, just use any damn bulb that will fit!
Try Radio Shack to start with but if you really can't find one similar, just get a small 12V wire-ended bulb and solder it in place.
BTW a LED would be fine. You can adjust the brightness simply by increasing the value of the series resistor. If you wire a series resistor to a standard 2V red LED, cost approx. 15 cents, then the resistor needs to be about 1.5K, giving a current of about 10mA, that should be about the right brightness for you. Make sure you wire the LED with the correct polarity...

I replaced all my climate control bulbs with ones from Radio Shack. Don't remember the part numbers (someone on this forum knew them at the time). They don't have a bulb the same size, but it was a little smaller and worked just fine. I just had to glue the blue condom onto the bulb housing, since the bulb itself was too thin to hold it.

Yeah, I took apart the rear defog switch before and the hazard once. Once you take them apart, they are a PIA to put back together (for me, anyway). There are some tiny bulbs in there. I believe, for those switches, Nissan does'nt sell the bubls seperately as a part. They only offer it as a whole assembly, hence buying the whole switch. But, you can replace it with a small 12V micro bulb from Radio Shack. It will work, but the life of them won't last long. Like someone said before, you can replace the bulb with LED's. This may be a better route, if you don't want to waste your money on a whole new switch.

MIXXMAX- when you say not for long- what are we talking about? Are we talking about not for long as in the same reliabaility as the fake HID bulbs on ebay or not for long as in it wont last as long as an LED?

Just throw a LED in there for a couple cents. If you've never soldered or worked with LEDs before it's a good time to learn! Do NOT pay $4 for some little incadecent bulb that is just going to burn out again anyway. My 2 cents

Yes, I'll second that. I'm going to replace all my interior lights with high-output LEDs as soon as I'm past the 'heavy work' stuff.

I'm talking about those 12V micro bulbs sold at Radio Shack. The life of them are just as short as the stock bulbs. And yeah, if you go with LED's, they will last a lifetime if you wire them correctly, especially with the appropriate resistor.
