Spilled juice in my maxima.....

Spilled it directly on the transmission, now the car doesn't want to go into Drive, it's stuck in P, I forced it into drive a couple times but I don't want to break anything so I called a mechanic to come to the house and check it out.

Anyone know what happened? How...did this happen? The automatic button is stuck

Juice......

like..... apple juice?

Didnt you know Maxima tranny's are not juice resistant!?

What youre saying doesnt make any sense, juice cant screw up your shift cable linkage - but that sounds like the problem. Did you push the "shift lock" button down and try it?

Spill some beer on it next time

The shift button sticks 95% of the time and won't allow me to change into another gear, I can change it by sheer force but that's not good and I spilled some tea in my car and wednesday and the problems arose yesterday.

How do i remove the panel that covers the transmission? Maybe I can see the exact issue with what's going on.

It sounds like you mean you spilled stuff on the shifter itself. Just pry up the plastic trim and start cleaning. Its probably nice and sticky in there now.

The shifter button or SHIFT LOCK button?

There's a small plate on the front of the tranny below the battery - you can see a cable curving to it and connecting to it.

You may have to adjust the linkage properly.

Yea, I think the shift lock button.....

I have to take off that center piece and clean it.

How do I take off the center panel to get to the transmission? The shifter button (one you press to change the gears) won't budge, something is jammed.

A little white piece that's supposed to let the transmission go into other gears seems stuck, looks like like a 180 degree circle.

Fixed it, I moved that little white piece up and that free'd up the stick to move again, wasn't great but works enough temporarily.

Now I have to move it around for it to give me my keys back.....
