Im not allowed to search so I had to post.

Im looking into a y-pipe for my 98 auto se. What over gains do you get with it? Im looking for a general power increase and throttle response. But I dont want alot of noise except for under full-throttle situations. Which y-pipe is the best?

You can search if you use Google's advanced search and include the exact string "Maxima.org Forums > Maxima Discussions > 4th Generation (1995-1999)"

most of the power increase comes on after 4000 RPM so it might not be worthwhile with an auto.

Because the auto, what, never goes above 4k RPM?

He probably means that you wont be driving over 4k too often so investing in a y-pipe may not provide the power gains this kid is looking for. Before he commits to the Y-pipe I just want to point out that 15hp does not equal 15lb/tq so dont expect too feel much difference in pull on the low/mid range of the band. I never actually invested in a Y-pipe but I have read the threads where people say that they didnt "feel" the difference as much as they expected. My 2cents

I think it's just much harder to tell added HP with an auto. I've got a warpspeed y-pipe and fenderwell CAI and the car doesn't feel much different than my grandma's stock I30.

Because of what devilz05 and 98maximagle said, and the parent poster asked for "general power increase and throttle response." And in general driving conditions no, an auto won't go above 4k... you have to mash the gas for that.

Can someone sticky this suggestion!!!! I'm so tired of reading the same threads over and over, and even though I'm still new on this forum, I can see it is a huge problem here.

Yes you will feel the gains
Doesnt matter if its an auto
You will notice it the second you step on the gas after you install it

If that was the case, then why mod an auto at all?

Not exactly, you will feel it after the ecu adjusts.

Auto drivers on this very forum have claimed to feel no gain. I didn't make it up!

I never said you made it up. I have had two different y-pipes myself and have felt the gains from each of them.

A) Are you driving an Auto?

B) Do you have any other mods?

C) Do you feel the change throughout the RPM band?

D) Thank You

I have a cattman y on my auto and feel little difference. I'm sure the power is there but its hard for many people to feel a difference in the higher rpm range. I'm sure it'll be different at the track. BTW its pretty quiet at low rpm, the quietest are budget and cattman and all Y-pipes give just about the same gains. Good Luck
