so they are saying the calipers are sticking and they are gunked up. They want to replace the calipers and only charge for the parts. I told them they should be fixing them for free, and that if there was nothing wrong with the calipers the first time we brought it in there shouldn't be anything wrong with them now.

so u bring ur car in to get brake work done and when u get ur car back its worse than it was before u brought it in? thats entirely THEIR fault. how could they let you drive the car i that condition? they have to fix the brakes. bring the car back and say you want it fixed right and that ur not gonna pay for it either. theres no reason u should have to pay. if they refuse to fix or or try to charge you, take them to small claims court. stand ur ground. they are the ones at fault here.

- Some things here just don't make sense.
"Master cylinders" - there is only ONE master cylinder.
"works ok until warmed up" - what would brakes have to do with the car being warmed up?
If the calipers are sticking, this is something you can easily rectify yourself. Buy some brake cleaner and proper brake grease, take the (front) wheels off, undo the two bolts on each caliper, remove the calipers and pads, use a G-clamp to push the pistons back into the caliper housing, clean up the area nicely using brake cleaner. Clean and regrease the caliper pins (those bolts you took out) with proper brake grease, don't use too much. Reassemble, pump brakes carefully to bring pads back up to the rotors. Test drive.
Anyway it is not a disaster even if you decide to replace the calipers. They are not expensive. It's all in the stickies...
Find a better mechanics next time...

Pay for the calipers and not the labor seems like a fair deal. This is more work they have to preform because the calipers are no good. Its not their fault and just because they didnt notice it the first time around doesnt make them liable for bad parts on your car.

Braking systems get hot too. When things get hot they expand. This could very well cause a braking system to seize up. I have seen it before. Mainly on drum brakes that have been adjusted too tight.

Also I dont think relubing the sliding pins on the caliper is going to fix his problem. Sounds like the calipers need to be rebuilt, which is a time consuming task. Most mechanics wont do it. They just get reman'd calipers and start fresh.
