Help with axle repairs

Hey guys, my dust boot tore on both of my front wheels. Don't ask me how, but I now have to replace the fron axle. I want to try to figure out how much the parts would cost if I got them, so I was hoping that a knowledgable orger would be able to list all of the parts I need so that i could look them up on allnissanparts.net. Thanks in advance.

You just need the axle, and maybe a new axle/tranny seal. Each one should be less than 75 plus core charge at your local auto store.

Wow, that's a pretty good price. I live in Brooklyn, but go to school in Long Island, so I don't know if it makes much sense for me to drive three hours each way to get it done (taking into account abtou 3 bucks a gallon for premium) but thanks anyway. Does anyone know any closer locations?

it depends .. i heard oem is the best for something like that, even the BOOTS last longer which is the number 1 stance for having messed up 1/2 shafts.. but when ur lowered ur more prone to it getting shread up.

dust boot or cv boots break or rip easily. its pretty common. if the boots been tore or broken for a while, dirt and dust has gotten in there and ur bearings are probly shot. if you have noticed a greenish colored grease or residue on ur front end or ur front wheels, then its ur cv boot. which means ur gonna have to replace ur axle. a new axle comes with the boot, grease, and bearings all as a set. i paid 200 for mine and installed it myself. if this has been a problem for a while, just replace the whole thing, otherwise months down the road ur gonna run into problems again. id say at any shop it would cost 300 or 350 per axle to install. thats about 200 for the parts, and an hour to 2hrs for the install. i would NOT take a cheap way out for something like this. like i said, if you half *** it or replace just one thing, ur gonna run unto more problems. do it once, do it right. get a quote from more than 1 place. best of luck

when i did my 5spd the tranny fluid ran out, but on my auto that didnt happen. so you may need to refill the fluid depending on what happens to you.

just buy a rebuilt one from napa and make sure its the correct one (abs, lsd, manual or auto). oh and you need a 36mm socket.

I plan on doing my CV axles soon. I noticed one boot is all torn up, and the other is on its way when I was under the car installing my y-pipe/ and replacing the b-pipe and muffler. During the job, I had to run to the local Nissan dealer to pick up the cat hanger ($45.00) which was rusted off, and asked for a price on the axles. The parts manager himself said the Nissan ones are too expensive, costing a few hundred each, and no different than the "cheapo's". He said when they do work, unless the owner specifies he wants a Nissan OEM part, they use the ones you can buy at Pep Boys, for less than a hundred bucks each. He recommended that on his own, without me complaining about prices first. SO if the local stealer says no need to use the OEM part, don't.

Oh man, the same damn thing happened to me today. I took my Max to auto shop today and lifted her into the air to have my instructor say "Uh oh.. Class, come over 'ere!".

I have to replace the whole axle as well... On top of that that, Pep Boys cross-thread a few studs and they broke when I was inspecting my brakes.. I had to spend half an hour arguing with them because they wanted to charge me!

Anyways, good luck McNasty! (N' anyone else who has this problem. )

Raxles.com . . . Best experience I've had with axles. Local auto stores gave me a very shabby rebuilt axle.

Thanks for all the help guys. I recently lowered my car with Tociko Blues (this summer) so I guess that's what did it. I did notice some fluid on them and I saw that. I guess I'll have to hold of on the rims for a little while.

i got my axles for 79.99 and 71.99 for some cardone ones from kragen auto, which may still be called checkers or something in other parts of the country. or you can go to partsamerica.com and find them there. anyway they are rebuilt and are from the company cardone, reason i got them from kragen was the lifetime warranty on them. you can find them cheaper online just do a search on google or something
