I gotta budget y-pipe a couple weeks ago and I hear da "bees in da can" noise from the y everytime I accelerate...help!!! Faulty y-pipe? incorrect installation?? anyone else who had this problem???

Take it to a local muffler shop and see if there is any exaust leaks

it most likely is due to a leak in the flex section. unfortunately, this usually requires a new flex section to be put in its place. hopefully it may just be a bad gasket seal; an easy fix.

I have a hard time understanding what the bees in the can sound everyones talking about is. Does it occur around 2000rpm?

It just makes this buzzing noise everytime you accelerate at ALL rpms. But the funny thing is, it doesn't make the noise while in neutral...only when ur driving!!! Very annoying...

I'm surprised more people don't know that a lot of raspiness comes from the uneven length of the y-pipe. There's only so much you can do to "hide" the sound, and it's not entirely gaskets and the flex section.

I was planning to pick up the Budget y-pipe and b-pipe with resonator.

But with all the fitment issues, and now the bees-in-a-can discussion again....well I don't know. Mine is a daily driver.

That "motorvate" website has pics of him wrapping the y-pipe in insulation to quiet it down. You might try that.

I have a budget Y-pipe and b-pipe and I'm very satisfied with everything. I suggest calling them at budget and see what they can do.

I have Budget Y-Pipe, and no complaints, it sounds great!! Bees in the can sound? im not sure if that's what i have, but doesn't sound bad.

i think a lot of times, people think it is annoying since everyone thinks also.

Maybe you should call up budget, and see what they can do for you, who knows, maybe they'll send you a new one.

My inital Budget Y had a bad weld on the inside of the Y, causing a tic-tic-tic (aka, VW sound) under acceleration. Asked Lyell to ship another to replace, they did. New one sounds great!

In case any of you were interested in the Budget B-pipe:

Discoloration is from the welding, not rust.
BTW I've no issues with my Budget Y and B pipes.

I have one, no bees at all
CE and Cattman are the only two ypipes that dont have any complaints

The Deal

I'd like to see some more opinions on the Budget. Ive read the comparo and it said thet the Bees isnt a big issue but Im wondering if it has become one since it was written... I need O2s so I might as well replace the Y and wanted a budget.... hope some more folks post there feelings about them

I called them up and they said it wasn't that big a deal and that the bee sound didn't harm performance or anything...they also said that if I wasn't satisfied, they would send me a replacement. Mine's pretty loud(louder than my intake) so I asked for a replacement...we'll see how soon it gets here.

heres my opinion....i think people jsut dont realize how much increase in flow u actually get .....anytime u increase flow u make noise......i had a budget on my old maxima it was used and i had no issues....or maybe i just knew the car would get louder and make more noises

hmmm i have had no issues with my budget ypipe which is aluminum..(lighter) but the only problem i have is that it hangs so damn low....i've seached an dhave found no solution for this....

I've had my y-pipe wrapped for a couple of years now with very good results in noise reduction. I have taken the wrapping off a couple of times to check on the pipe, all has been fine. I wrapped from right underneath the O2 sensors all the way back to where the y-pipe meets the catalytic converter. At first I tried just the flex section, but it did not do much to alleviate the problem. I live in Southern California so bad weather is not an issue for me.

Hey guys, just reading up on this thread. I was just looking at CE y-pipes and they seem pretty good (http://www.customenterprise.com/view.../vts/design017) it mentions about the flex section and how theres reduces the "bees in the can sound" They even have some dyno charts but i dont see any lines on the graph? why do u think the CE y-pipes are only from 95-98, not 99? Anyway if there is no complaints im gona order mine soon.

I bought a Warpspeed stainles steel y-pipe with the newer flex section, guess what I still had the bees in the can sound. Hopefully someone who's had some experience with that y-pipe can chime in. I think the noise is more than just the flex section. As I said, I wrapped that one time without much improvement. It is still a nice mod. I also had some fitment issues with my cat bracket, would be nice if the one your looking at does not have that issue.

An increase in 25hp and 25 ft/lb of torque TO THE WHEELS from a y-pipe? Seems a little too much for my tastes, can anyone confirm this?

I saw that claim and just dismissed it as marketing hype. Kind of makes you wonder about their quieter pipe .

I have a stainless steel Budget y-pipe and had no fitment issues or bees in the can sound whatsoever. There is a bit of growl at WOT (coupled with a K&N panel filter) which I kind of like.

I suspect the y-pipe in question may not be properly installed.

Only buy the stainless steel y-pipe and do not wrap the flex section. Moisture and dirt trapped will ruin it overtime. Exhaust wrap is meant for wrapping headers under racing conditions. It has no use for a daily driver whatsoever!

My y-pipe was properly installed and still made the noise. The headerwrap greatly reduced the noise. I've had my y-pipe wrapped for a couple of years now. I've changed out the headerwrap just to check it, no issues. I read, and read posts regarding this issue before doing it (so I know about all of the negative things that can happen). My car is my daily driver, goes on 500 mile trips once in a while as well. Even if the pipe was going to fail earlier, I would rather do that than deal with the noise. In my case it is being used on my daily driver. I could not stand hearing that noise everyday.

I would caution people that live outside of areas like mine (nice weather most of the time) to pay attention to their pipes.

While this subject is open, I just saw a set of headers and Y-pipe from stone racing i guess and they claim about 30hp in total(not to the wheels though) They actually had a dyno run posted on vqpower.com and my question is does anyone have any opinions on these. I mean if vqpower endorses them, they must be okay but i just wanted to know from you guys.

I have a budget stainless y pipe and mine also makes noise. It sounds more like a rattler on a rattlesnake to me. It happens at all rpms over 2k or so. However if I accelerate very gently it quiets down to stock sound levels. Press the gas a little too much and it buzzes. Its not so bad that I want to put the stocker back on though.

That's exactly like mine...I still didn't get a reply but they wrote me an email saying they will replace it, so we'll see...I can't stand that noise!!! Driving me nuts!!!

I think the majority of the noise is from un equal length in piping...think about it...the front exhaust travels farther than the rear exhaust therefore the front exhaust is not travelling at the same speed as the rear once they both reach the Y part. This un equal speed causes turbulance and voila bees in a can
