ABS Light while getting out of the snow!?

i just got my Maxima out of the 2 foot snow storm successfully. it took about 5 minutes but with Gear 1 and the Overdrive button i got it done. For some reason my ABS light came on for the first time and its not going away. this happened while i was reving my engine and was strugling to get out. i don't know how revving your engine has anything to do with your brakes, and exactly why it came on. please help me out guys. thanks!

Excessive front wheel spin while the rear wheels are standing still will confuse the ABS system and set a fault. It should go away after you drive about a mile or so.

My ABS light is on now after it was sitting for like three months. What could be the problem?

I was in a similar situation, trying to get up a VERY slippery hill. By the time I was done the dashboard was lit it up like a christmas tree, including the ABS light! Even nowadays, if i slip and slide enough when i start it the O/D light flashes at me.

I would suggest going to www.phatg20.net and d/l the service manual for your year, there is a section in it regarding pulling the codes out of the ABS computer by grounding one of the pins (L) in the diagnostic connecter.

the abs light should go out when you restart the car. no worries nothings damaged, but yes the abs will not function when the light is on.

Possibly keep the revs up, I would guess.

Overdrive just turns off the 4th Gear. He wasn't getting up there so there was no point. That's what he meant by that. If you keep it in first gear you can redline it.

Got it.. So the revs are only kept up in 3rd gear, right?

this also happened to me doing some mean drifting in the snow last night. I would just restart my car and everything would reset and go back to normal. The abs saved my *** several times on downhills coming towards an intersection

There not "kept up". The trans is held from shifting into overdrive (4th gear).

You'd think after the first close call coming off of a hill you'd learn and slow down...

You can always draw codes for the ABS if you want. Hook a cable up between ground and the L terminal on the harness just to the right of the fuses on the left side of the dash (NOT the one you'd hook a scanner up to). The L terminal is the 4th one down from top left. After doing this turn the ignition to the on position. After about 3-4 seconds your ABS light will start flashing the code. Read it in the same manner as you would the check engine light codes (just a series of slow and fast blinks). If you have any questions let me know. Oh and I have a list of all the codes so if you find the code but dont know what it's for post it or PM me and I'll let you know what actions to take for troubleshooting

I didnt undestand this part: "Hook a cable up between ground and the L terminal on the harness just to the right of the fuses on the left side of the dash (NOT the one you'd hook a scanner up to). The L terminal is the 4th one down from top left." Can you e-mail me the codes or direct me to them?

Ok, if you pull the fuse panel to the left of the steering wheel (you know where the fuel pump fuse is, all your illumination fuses, etc...) there will be a harness in there just to the right of the fuses. In order to draw codes for the ABS you need to ground one of the terminals in that harness, in this case it's called the L terminal which is the 4th hole down on the left (the harness is vertical, not horizontal). You need to hook a wire up to that terminal from a ground. I find it easiest to use the bolt going into the body of the car attaching the door hinge. Run a wire contacting that bolt to the 4th terminal down on the left in that harness, simply sticking the other end of the wire into the terminal. Once you have done this turn your ignition to the on position and after a few seconds your ABS will start flashing the codes. I don't know how to explain it much better than that I'm a mechanic so this is second nature to me. I don't have the list of the codes online unfortunetely...I have the Nissan FSM and they're all listed in there so that's what I use for reference.

Snowy in DC last Saturday, and I had to drive to work. So I shoveled some snow out (not completely), started the car, waited, got snow off my car. The I tried to drive off the parking. The car moved for a few inches, then started to skit.

Some more skitting and I got the car out of the pack of snow ... ^^ smell rubber burning ^^ Well, ABS light in on ^^ I just ignored it and drive to work (about 12 miles away) ABS light is still on ^^ Few more inches to complete the parking at my work place and light turned off ^^ Nice day!
