00-01 Manual in a 4th gen?

Everyone is telling as far as the salvage guys that I cant put a 00-01 tranny into a 98. If this is true can you guys let me know before I buy this tranny. Thanks alot for those who can help. I know it probably has been asked in the stickies somewhere but could not find info on 6 speeds going into VQ30de from 6th gens. I really just want to know about 1st part.

You said different axles from a 95-99 but I already have a 98! So is their other axles I need? I figured it would work but these things are not cheap an a learn the hard way buy is not something I can afford right now. (Trying to buy house for me and family) You are telling me my raxle axles are fine thats already their.

the 2k-1k2 5 speeds will drop right in and you use your stock 4th gen axles. the 6speed is more trouble thant its worth, dont bother.

You don't need different axles unless you are switching from an open diff transmission to a VLSD transmission, or vice versa. Check the all motor forum, at the top of the page there is a sticky about swapping the 00-01 transmission into a 4th gen. I wrote some of the main posts in it, I've done the swap a number of times now, so I posted all that is involved.

Here I just hooked you up with the thread because I'm a nice guy.

Basic jist is this:

If you are taking a 4th gen open diff trans out of your car and putting in an 00-01 open diff trans, you don't have to change a thing. Just the transmission. No axle changing, no anything.

If you are switching from open diff to LSD of any year from 95-2001, you have to change the driver's side axle to an LSD axle. The driver's side axle is proprietary to the type of trans you are putting it in. If you are using an open diff trans you have to have an open diff driver's side axle. If you are using an LSD trans you have to use an LSD driver's side axle. The passenger side axles are the same for both open diff and LSD transmissions, regardless of year (from 1995-2001).

ALL of the above info is only certain for 5spd cars, I don't know anything about doing any swaps with automatic cars.

Thanks for the reassurance on what I have read and figured. Just like to have the extra know and if their would of been anyone with a small problem here or their I should have to worry about, but it is as plain and simple as I thought. Thanks again! Now we just need some ITB's for the max, but that will be another thread when I actually figure it out.
