Hey guys im looking to buy another maxima, I found a good 5 speed 99, but its a GXE are they much slower (due to the tranny) than the SE, and are the 99's the slowest of this generation? THanx

There is no difference, if anything the GXE is a tiny bit faster because it is a little lighter, but really there is no discernable difference. GXE and SE come with the same transmission options (auto or 5spd), GLE only comes in automatic.

no difference, the only difference between an SE and a GXE is that the SE doesn't have a limiter that cuts off gas to the engine when it reaches a certain HP.

Cuts off gas when it reaches a certain HP?

You're wrong.

If you had read the FAQ, you'd know about all there is to know about GXEs and speed limiters.

Well when my car gets to 150.3hp and 179.3 lb/ft of torque the speedlimiter comes on.

(due to the tranny)
All 4th gen transmissions are the same they are either 4 spd auto or 5 spd manual. Do yourself a favor and get an SE, jmo.

I dunno about you but I would rather have a 5 speed GXE than an auto SE... oh wait... I do...

PS: it's a lot eaier to find a 5 speed GXE than a 5 speed SE from my experience.

5 spd SE FTW.........but really the difference is so tiny is pointless....and the speed limiter cuts gas a certian MPH....but we all have Rev Limiters which limits RPMs....jsut some food for thought

I have a gxe tranny in my GLE...that means it's lighter y0

GLE and SE ECU's have no speed limiters, only the GXE ones do, but then again, how often are you gonna take it to 115 mph?

Don't SE's and ES's come with a limited slip transaxle? And GXE's and GLE's don't?

That might be important to you if you want to drive in the snow or drag race.

So how can you tell if you have the GXE or the SE? I'm new and am looking to buy a 95 Maxima and I think its the SE... has the spoiler, 5spd, Bose, leather steering wheel and stick shift ****, no leather seats though. So Im wondering which it is.
And also, what should I look out for, it has 124k miles, looks nice, pearl white paint... What goes wrong on these cars? How is the manual tranny? I know replacing the spark plugs is a pain.
Thanks guys.

In Canada, maybe.

Take a look at my site, just click the link on the sig. In the FAQ it has model differences. Or you can go and see the same info in the 4th gen FAQ's...

4 times a week for me, but then again all that WOT means that I'm buying gas every other day.

And I've had mine up to 126 MPH once, but that was on a long straightaway.

All touring model I30's come loaded and have VLSD, way better then any maxima trans 95-99, auto or 5speed. Strange they didn't even make it an option on 96-99 maxima's.

Yep, auto sadly.

I have two pics, one showing how the long stretch of road was (just imagine what you can see plus about 20 miles), and the other that shows ~113 MPH which is when I got scared of driving with one hand on the wheel and one with a camera. I hit 126 then backed off.

Heh, don't worry about driving in TN, I only do this sort of stuff on empty long straightaways out in the middle of nowhere.

Looking back at these pics, these were 09/27/05, and almost exactly 11k miles ago.

So what happens when you guys dump the clutch? Do you spin one wheel like a rear wheel drive vehicle w/o limited slip?

I thought coming all the way from Japan, USA and Canadian cars would be identical.

Can you Americans do nasty burnouts like the motorvate guy's video.

(Honestly I got limited slip more for winter driving than drag racing!)

I get pretty close to that on my 99 5sp GXE on a daily basis. Then again I travel 220 miles a day. The guys at valvoline know me by name, I am there every 3rd week.
