My 97 Nissan Maxima at times performs like a damn monstor, especially when the engine is cold as hell. But other than that at times, it performs great, then other times it feels lazy, especially at times when I'm trying to show it off and dust civics. Is it perhaps cause my Knock sensor is bad, and my rear heated O2 sensor is bad as well. Please lemme know so I can keep a more efficient maxima, cant ruin the repuation maxima's share. Hehehe

beating cold motor = dumb.....change your sensors....it might just help

 

Man I'm just saying when i start my car and only let it warm up for like 2 minutes and then take off in the winter, my engine feels 100% stronger then in the hot *** humid summer, I dunno why Just curious, but im the owner and i realize a difference. Theres nothing wrong with the vechile besides the damn knock sensor

Well you can start by seeing if its throwin any codes, by checkin the ECU this can be found in the stickies, or you can go to a local autoparts store and have them pull codes, sometimes the KS throws a ghost code. Other things you can check fuel/air filters, plugs etc.

 

Your engine feels stronger in the cold winter rather than a hot summer because the colder air is more dense and greater amounts of air molecules will yield more power output. Engines are just air pumps, the more air in, the more air out, the more power.
I would agree with the other orgers that have suggested against beating your cold engine!!! Wait until it is at operating temperature. In the cold winters here in Massachusetts, I warm it up a few minutes, then drive it like an old lady would for a few miles before getting on the highway....it allows the fluids to flow and warm up other vital mechanical units. The VQ is a rock-solid engine, but dont hasten the onset of problems like that.

check your knock sensor (codes or manual check), its probably partially working.

I have the same issue, sometimes its great, other times its sluggish. Please post what you find out

 

If something is bad, eliminate the variable and see what happens. i.e fix the faulty sensors.

There are so many different variables that can make a engine run different. weater is the main factor, temp, humidity, air pressure, fuel, etc. This is the reason when a top fuel drag car or, Nitro Funny car will have to back up their run. Say they run a 3.811 they have to make that or beat it for it to be official. An engine is Mechanical Science at its best.
