When you guys are putting on 17" or 18" wheels, are you staying with the same rolling diameter tires as stock? Or are you living with a speedo that's out a bit?

Some of the cars in this thread seem to have less fender gap than others.

Frodo's looks too good w/o a drop. I think either the tires are oversize or he's got a dead body in the trunk. But it "looks" lowered (very nice).

well aftermarket springs on stock struts is silly... and i'm sure you'll need new struts soon anyways.

Springs+Low Profile tires+NJ roads= Internal bleeding.

In my deceased car I hit a crater hole doing a solid 3mph in traffic, bending the rim and almost smashing my head through the window to boot. That was just on 16" rims with low profile tires, god forbid I was on aftermarket springs too. I can only imagine how many accidents were caused by that pothole before they fixed it. Im just going to paint my SE's black but If I decide to get rims in the end im definetaly staying away from those low profile tires, ride is too stiff and they are useless in the rain and snow.

i really think a drop is needed. a drop on the max makes it look a bit better. rims on a max make it look a bit better. but together, the two compliment eachother so much that it looks amazingly better.

You can do better on the hubcaps (or better than hubcaps) but that is a VERY clean car.

if youre not going to drop then dont waste your money on rims. the wheel gap will be even more obvious and make the car look like a wanna be.

4th gen maxima's wheel gap is just too ridiculous. pictures dont tell how ridiculous they really look.

But seriously, Im sure some of those pics are cars with the E-brake on and that itself increases the wheel gap. Once you pull it down, have one or two people in the car plus a system in the trunk the wheel gap becomes near non-existent. My 2 cents.

I've put a set of 5 speed front spring in my automatic, it braught the front down about 1/3 to 1/2 inch which made the front and rear gaps perfectly even. So it's basically at a "stock" ride height. Judge the gap for yourself. Compair the front to the rear, then look at another stock car. My front gap is noticably smaller then what it should be at the stock ride height.

That looks good. I think thats what I'm gonna do, just get the 5spd fronts. Do the 5spd rears drop the rear again? I don't see why the rear would be any different though... And in my opinion I would do a drop first if I was into looks. Rims with no drop looks cheap most of the time. Frodos looks nice, looks like the stock SE tires also, which are taller then what the 4th gen has stock i believe.

mine tires are the 2k3 17's with the stock 2k3 wheel size. i computed it with a online tire size calculator and my speedo is off like 1.45 faster mph i think. its not that bad i can live with it, but im gonna get the size that TireRack says to get with 17 in rims on the maxima when i get new tires.

i actually have 2 10 inch subwoofers and an amp in the trunk which prolly weighs it down a little. actually sometimes when i park with the front wheels straight it looks like the back is lower than the front, so i never park like that cuz i dont like it that much. but i love the look of my 2k3's without a drop actually, even thou in a few years im gonna get 18's chrome and might get a drop then

I'm dropping before rims as well. Rather have it look good while I save money for the rims. Wouldn't want a bigger gap or bad look all that time I had to save again for suspension parts. Just my $.02

everyone is saying "im dropping before rims" well might I add I bought the car on a thursday, put the rims on the friday night, screwed a few studs due to using my old nuts from the cavalier by mistake (duh... hehehe) and fortunately i have contacts so I was able to get my studs the saturday and get them replaced on the sunday, and i got the drop done the next thursday SO it was all planned heheh

i never really got to drive it with 15s and OEM suspension, but it must be a really smooth ride heheheheh

Haven't you heard. That's the new fad. Just put all of your aftermarket parts inside of the car instead of installing them. That way they'll last forever.

First, do some searching on shock types. Do you want a huge drop but a ****ty ride? or do you want to go for something lower but still comfortable? coilovers are the best and tuning your car can be fun, but they are expensive. Springs are cheap and struts can be had if i were to sacrifice one of my paychecks. some people throw their dropped springs on the OEM struts only to find out that the ride is much worse, and then they waste more money at a shop, or time in the garage, putting on aftermarket struts after the fact. This isnt a bad thing, experience is everything right? Thats what's keeping me from putting the springs on. I need to decide whether i can afford struts or not.

All in all, you can probably get a good entire coilover deal for about 200 more than shocks+struts....plus you can adjust them.

Just got the maxi last night, good thread because I was wondering the same thing. I don't want to compromise comfort and I think rims only is pretty nice. Is 18" the consensus if not dropping?

your car will be very high.

Drop your car, it will look 65341635165 times better with 18's.

Oh I know it'll look better but I do not want to diminish ride comfort one iota so dropping is a no. With that said, and realizing that yes it would look better dropped, with no drop, 18 or 17? 18 on 45 might help compared to 18's on 40 maybe? 17's on 50? Too much? Trying to see the best comfiguration without drop.

And yes, I know, drop will look better
