4th gen Idle while driving

Ok guys, this has been happening to my car lately, and i have no idea why.

When driving, i have noticed there are times when i would come to a stop, and when i take it out of gear, the rpm stays at about 2000-2300rpm for about 5 seconds then it drops back to normal. it does it for at least 4-6 more times then it stops.
it happens about twice a day. does anyone know whats wrong?

difficult to imagine what this could be.
try operating the throttle butterfly from under the hood, does it move freely without catching on anything? visually inspect the throttle cable.
check inside to see the carpet is not obstructing the accelerator pedal.
clean the IAC it could be sticking open.
