flat spot?
flat spot?
On my auto, I seem to have a 'flat spot' between 2500-3000. The car keeps accelerating, but it seems sluggish. Then when it gets to about 3000, the power seems to come in and at 3500, it really starts moving. I was hoping that this was due to the lack of maintenance (this is the one that had a 9 year old air filter) but, the car does run great, generally speaking, but I'm still conscious of this seeming 'dead zone'. I don't notice this if I do a standing start and keep it to the metal. Just in 'normal' (haha) driving. Is this just a 'feature' of the auto?
This happens with all maximas that have the stock USIM, it's just more apparent with autos. It's due to the way the stock intake manifold is resonance-tuned. The dip shows up on dyno's as well.

anyone know if this problem is evident in the 3.5 as well?
sometimes when i'm driving i ease into 3000 then i really start opening up the throttle and it feels amazing...its like im tricking myself to thinking that if i just floored it in any point of the rpm band it would produce that much of a kick, you know what im sayin?

The difference from 3000 on is very noticeable but the 3500 RPM point seems, to me, to be where the power really starts coming in very strongly.
Another thing, too; I've seen people complaining in the forum about the Max running out of breath past 5500 or so. I certainly don't have that impression. All the way to 6500, which is when the transmission shifts, I find the power is really strong. (No, I am not going to manually hold it in gear just for an extra 500 rpm before the red line! I'd like a manual car but such are hard to come by, this side of the border)
Weird mine shifts at lik 6000-6200... I had a MEVI on but took it off to do some work on it. And there is a noticeable loss up high. The car does go, but it starts to feel like alot of wind resistance or something up high. I don't know what other cars you have owned, but my previous car begged to rev out stock. The max seems to like the mid range better then anything.
