Oddyssey Battery?

Ive been looking into doing a lighter battery set up for my car. I see that some people are using the PC680MJ, but the cranking amps are low. I ran across this other battery and wanted to know if there would be any issues anyone can think of in using it.

You can get it cheaper here. http://www.batterymart.com/battery.mv?c=odyssey I've found these guys are always the cheapest. Batteryweb has good prices too. I have the PC680MJT and have no complaints so far. See sig.

According to this link, the PC 625 clearly loses in every category compared to the PC680. http://www.batteryweb.com/odyssey (and this is what I based my decision on) But, according to this link, http://www.odysseyfactory.com/specs.htm the PC625 stacks up nicely and is better than the PC680. The PC625 does not have a metal jacket which is needed to guard against heat. Lots of confliction information! I’d call Odyssey direct and get some firm factual answers.

Hope that helps a little.

I have been running the PC680MJT in my Z for about a year. No problems, it even can sit for 2 weeks or so unused in the garage and still cranks the car fine. 3-4 weeks and the parasitic draw from the car will kill it to the point it won't crank the car (solution drive car at least once every 2 weeks ). I would not suggest sitting around listening to the radio with the car off (reserve time is low) If I recall my research correctly the 680 provides 680amps for the first 5 sec and then starts to drop off, as you use more reserve power. I would suggest getting the metal jacketed model if your mounting under the hood. Once again IIRC with out the jacket the heat can cause the battery to swell and the plates to seperate, causing damage to the battery.

Good link Ceasar!

There, the PC625 loses in every category compared to the PC680. Also, the terminals on the PC625 are not compatible with the Maxima. You'll have to do some conversion. Not sure what you would need to do this. With the PC680, the terminals are readily available for purchase.

PC680MJT
MJ=Metal Jacket
T=Terminals

Like I said before, I have the PC680MJT and I like it a lot.

Just ran into a problem at lunch. Looks like I need a new battery I suppose I cant wait for one to ship so it looks like my decision was made for me Optima Red Top.

The problem was really weird. I was driving along with the radio on, ac full blast with recirc on, lights and fog lights on. I stopped at a light and the radio turned off. I rev up the engine and it turns back on. Then Im in the work parking lot trying different configs of turning on and off accessories and the car dies.

Sorry to hear that. Batteryweb ships fast, I got mine in two days w/o paying high shipping prices. Optima's are good, but they are heavier than normal car batteries, and more expensive. You sure you can't get by for a few days? You could buy a $35 Walmart battery and use it until the Odyssey shows up. Both batteries would still be cheaper than buying an Optima.

And do check you alternator, for peace of mind if nothing else. You don't want a bad alternator destroying a new battery.

How's the performance of the PC680MJ? Should I new terminals too if I get this battery?

Definitely listen to James, he knows how to do his research. It is a worthy investment. I'm looking at one so I don't have to take up as much trunk space. It can probably fit in my jack well.

You have to use the terminals to connect the battery to your stock battery cables. With out the terminals you would have to modify you battery cables so they can bolt to the battery.

As for the Optima batteries they are good but really heavy. I have a "red top" in the Maxima (3rd one 2 have died and been replaced under warranty) I had a "red top" in the Z, and when it died (that one lasted 4yrs?) I decided to save some space and 24lbs and go with the PC680MJT.

Well after taking my car to the stealership and running some tests it turned out to be the battery. With all the battery trouble Ive had lately, I went with the safe bet and bought a Red Top. It wasnt much heavier than the stock one.

i got a braille battery instead of the odyssey ones. It has more cca than the odyssey and weighed less but cost more about 150 shipped. check out braillebattery.com for more info. They have one that is 11.5 pounds (the one i have) and an all season one with more ccas weighs 15 pounds. By the way this battery is dinky looks like it belongs on a power wheel you can fit this thing almost anywhere just need new j hooks to hold it down.
