lifter noise
I think I developed a lifter tick on #1. this started a few k mi after I switched to gold GC with LC20. engine was whisper quiet before.
how do you fix a noisy lifter - adjust valve clearance?
will this cause excessive wear if not corrected?

not sure I understand your reply... isn't valve clearance the play between the rocker arm and the valve stem when the cam lobe is not acting on the lifter -- if there's too much play the system makes noise, a "tick", right? if not, then where is the noise coming from.

yeah my injectors make that tick - but this is something different. a little bit lower pitch, slower, and more metallic than injector noise. and it seems like it's coming from inside the head cover as opposed to on top/center where the injectors are.
on a side note - is the injector tick a bad thing? I always thought it was normal.
thanks for the replies.

The cam lobe acts directly on a bucket style lifter that sits right on the end of the valve. Valve clearance in a VQ30 is adjusted through changing lifter shims. In a VQ35, you change the actual lifter.
