Home Link. Doesn't work.
I have a home link transmitter, which I have been trying to program, without any luck.
I know how to program it (I have done it before for a couple of different garages), but I just moved to a new house with a new garage opener, and I just can't get the damm thing to work. The manual states that it might not work with older garage openers, but this is a bran new Lift-Master. My friends' house has a 3 year old opener Same brand and it doesn't work either.
Does any one know if there is a problem with this particular brand, or is just not in the right frequency? Any body has a similar problem?
thanks a lot in advance.

yeh we got a new house with a new liftmaster and my homelink doesn't work either. I called Homelink and they said that it won't work with the newer lifts because there is security on them (if your remote inside the garage says "Security" it won't work) If your homelink has a picture of a little house it will work but since you have a 97 like me it won't (The newer cars do, I think they said 98 and up). They said I needed a bypass that I can get from them for about $60 or at Home Depot for $??? (Never looked into it). So yeh thas what you need n I guess I gotta get one too cuz I keep puttin it off and get out my car and use the remote on the outside cuz my parents got the other 2 lol...
Hope this helpz...

Your Homelink unit isn't compatible with the newer rolling code technology used for most garage door openers. I have the exact same problem. The door openers were changed from a "fixed" code because the doofuses who bought them never changed the factory settings, so anyone could use a standard remote to get into your garage. It's just another gimmick that unfortunately makes your Homelink unit not usable. I called Homelink years ago and they said they changed to the newer technology just after my production run. I have a '97 that was built in 11/96.

I emailed Homelink, and here's the scoop:
Thank you for visiting our HomeLink website regarding the issue you are having with your garage door opener. Prior to 1997, all HomeLink equipped vehicles were not compatible with rolling code garage door openers system(rolling code is the type of opener you have). Depending on the manufacture date, even some early 1998 vehicles with HomeLink may or may not be rolling code compatible.
To check and see if you have a rolling code compatible HomeLink, look at the led indicator light by the 3 buttons.
**If you have an oval shaped red indicator light it is a - non - rolling
code compatible HomeLink.
**If your indicator light is located inside a house/Icon it is a rolling
code compatible HomeLink.
**If the led is amber (yellow) colored it is also a rolling code
compatible HomeLink.
If your vehicle is not rolling code compatible, you can make the two units compatible by installing a Universal Receiver in the garage. This receiver, when used with HomeLink, will bypass the rolling code feature that your opener offers. Your hand-held transmitters and wall switch button will still "roll" the codes when they are used.
You can contact your local garage door opener dealer regarding the availability of this device or feel free to call our HomeLink customer assistance center at 1-800-355-3515. Our hours are M-F 5am-7pm, Sat. 6am-5pm & Sun 7am-5pm MST. The cost of a Universal Receiver is approximately $68.90+ ship/tax.
