Bypassing A/C Comressor
I posted a thread a while ago about my noisy compressor, and yall suggested doing a shot of a/c ester oil. That didnt help, but I started thinkin... I'm in michigan and im used to georgia heat. I didn't even use the a/c last summer... anyway the point is I was thinking of just bypassing the a/c. Would I gain any HP from this? If anyone has sone this or knows sumthin about it pleez help me out.

Because the A/C adds drag to the belt, yes you'd see some gains. Not too much, mind you; but gains all the same. To see more gains, you'd have to actually remove the compressor and hardlines (only substitute for more HP is less weight).
I'm down in Florida, and I removed both the heat and A/C (all lines and parts including the heater core) in my Rx-7 for a savings of about 75 pounds. Since my car is pretty close to 2000 pounds; that much weight removed was immediately felt.
Since the Maxima is heavier, you won't really feel anything, but your butt dyno might tell you it's faster

as you are pulling things out, can you do a write up, or put up some photos, im going to do mine as well, and wanted to know if the dash has to be pulled to get to the evaporator. maybe you can get to that thing , by just removing the glove box ?

I just did this on tuesday. The NAPA belt I used that turned out to be perfect was length 33 5/8" It turned out that the one I have is a 5 rib but probably wouldn't hurt to have all 6. My pulley was apparently making all kinds of unknown racket so the car is MUCH quieter now. But I do think I noticed a slight difference in low end power.
edit: the one that the FAQ suggests is a gates 33.1" which with my UDP and tensioner would have been way too small.
