Well, I received my Tokico Illuminas and I read in the paper it came with about having to cut the bumpstops to about half. Did anyone else cut their bumpstops for the Tokico illumina kit install?

I did, and not sure if it made a difference but sure is better than the KYB GR2's I had on previously. I like setting # 2 in front, and # 3 in back. GR2's were way too harsh for me.

I got mine from Performance Peddler for $408.00 shipped.

i bought KYB bumpstops. i ended up having to use a dremel bit to open up the opening a bit more as it was such a tight fit on the strut piston.

Adrian I believe that is just the struts. I got the whole kit. Struts and Springs all together. I got mine from Automax_95 during a group deal. Great person to deal with. The kit (springs and struts) is $650. How long did it take you all to do the install and am I needing to buy KYB bumpstops( is it a must)? Only reason why Im asking is because I wanted to install my suspension tomorrow after work.

It has taken me a LONG time since I've run into so many snags. If you 'want' to buy KYB boots, there is a group deal on them which takes about a week to ship to your door. Some members of this board don't recomend these boots, however. Bump stops ARE a must. you can buy the OEM boots however, and cut them.

Since all my bolts were rusted up, it took long, I stripped two in the front. The fronts took me around 3-4 hrs each, I had a hard time lining up the struts with axels, not that easy. Then again its the first time in my life that I've ever done this. Now I bet I could do it in half the time. The rears were a lot easier, about an hour for the rears.

They recomend that you cut them so that you will get more travel out of your strut before you max out the set up. It will allow for a smoother ride. If your stock bump stops are in good shape (I doubt they are if they are originial) then you can cut them in half. If not just get some new ones and cut some off of them.

I have the Illimina set up with KYB boots and stops that are precut. Works great for me.

ya i have the KYB boots not cheap but i just zip the bottoms to the struts so its sealed nice, plus the KYB boots are really nice.

Yeah, but Im not trying to wait either. Im doing the install today when I get off of work. Ill just get some from the dealer or from Autozone today before I tackle it and just cut half way. Ill get the KYB boots later on. I installed my ADDCO RSB today, nice and easy project took about 30-45 minutes to put on. The rear feels more solid through turns and I can take turns way faster than I thought possible. Turns feel more smooth too. I love it.

Let me know how your Illumina Kit upgrade goes. I have one sitting in the garage scheduled for this weekend. I read the How To write-up on the Illumina kit as well as the information sent with the kit and have the same questions regarding bump stops and boots.

Thanks, Luke. Ive been studying your write up for like 2 weeks now on the Illumina kit install. This will be my first but I am really excited though.

Indymax, same here, Ive been reading it over and over and studying the pictures to see what I might miss or cant see. Ill let everyone know how it went when it is done today. Hopefully I can get it done in less than 3 hours.

Its not really that difficult, only part thats hardest is climbing in the trunk to remove the rear assembly.. Other than that, its fine. Also they sell some funky looking dust boots at Murray's that will do the job fine, they come in different colors so you can get black/red/blue.

With some help you should be able to get it done in no time. I've done dozens of suspension installs, and they are all the same. Just watch those flimsy nissan bolts in the trunk, they want to strip on you if you dont grip them good.

Yeah, thats one thing I hate about Nissans parts are the freakin bolts or nuts, they strip like nothing if not gripped securely. Itll just be me but Im going to try to get it done in a good time. My next door neighbor lets me use his tools for tools that I dont have and he has an air compressor, so hopefully I can use some of his air tools to do some of it too. Ive been using them so much I have the code to his garage to get in if I need anything and he's not home.

Alright guys, I put them on. Pics will be coming soon in the members forum. You wont believe how long it took me, and it was only because of bolts and it was me by myself. I started at around 4:30-5:00 and didnt finish until about 10 something last night. Use lots of WD-40 and let those suckers soak. I think the bolts were easier to take off after driving for awhile too because of the heat but after they cooled down they were extremely hard to get off. This is definately a weekend job. It was fun because I got to use some air tools but I think they were kinda weak in torque so those didnt help with the removal of the bolts too well either. Overall I am pleased with the stance. Very pleasing ride. I have my settings at 5 for the front and 4 for the rear. I tried 2 in the front and I could tell it was kinda soft. I am probably going to lower the settings by 1 though. My next door neighbor said I shouldve slammed it but I told him its not a civic or anything else running around around here. Even though I had the issues with the bolts, it was a great experience.

Nope wont have any until after work today. It was too dark outside last night. Ill take some when I get off today because I have the camera in the car. Still debating on going to get my rims mounted with some tread and slap those on or wait until next week to do it.
