Why am I seeing 4th gens with SE-R badging?

I've, on the way to work in the greater Tampa Bay area, seen two 4th gen and one 5th gen Maximas with SE-R badging (from the Sentra). Why are people doing this? Or is there something going on that I dont know about? Please inform the mis/ mal-informed.

just for looks man. why do people put 5th gen rims on 4th gens? why do people swap grills from 97-99 to 95-96's? why do people . . . eh, you get the point.

my best guess (joking of course) would be that these are maxmias with all the bolt on mods, maybe a bit more like vq35de swaps or OOVI powered VQ30DE's. These models also may include aftermarket suspenions, sts, and weight reduction. Along with aftermarket light weight racing wheels. these extras would for sure turn your SE, into an SE-R.

true, i guess it is just wierd to consider the fact that these are either seriously dedicated maxima enthusiasts or are total posers with inadequate mis-badging efforts. The one guy that made me raise my suspicion was a middle-aged business suit wearing guy with a "I love golfing" plate" and a SE-R badge. Just didn't seem right.

I am guilty of the charges your honor. Yes, I have a SE-R emblem on my Max. I love making people scratch their heads. Even better have someone on Maxima.org write up a whole thread.LOL

This just makes them look cool to people who don't know the difference. To the actual tuners however they look like total jack hole posers. Like this "m5" i saw the other day, clearly not an m5, but to some one who can't tell by the body they might be impressed. At least "SE-R" is more believable then the "GT-R" maxima I see rolling the streets by my house lol.

I saw an old man with a mustang 5.0 emblem on the 4th gen fender, he had reflectors all over the trunk, pretty fugly but a good laugh. Like the GTR badges....

So the 300ZX in my neighborhood didn't come with VTEC from the factory?

Okay, Okay I am kidding... But I just shake my head everytime I see it. He's N/A too, not 300ZX TT.

/shrug. Stickers are cheaper than a Y-pipe?

I thought maybe there was somethin going on that I wasn't aware of. But it sounds like mis-badging jobs of r*cers and r*cer affiliates. Honestly, if I saw a max with vtec badging, I would have to ask the guy what the deal is. Thanks for the good laugh

Brilliant! I think this word "fugly" should enter the language as a new word!

SE-R badging is funny. At least they would've gone with GT-R.
