painting stock rims

I was thinking of getting my stock rims painted gunmetal, so I called a local place and asked for a quote, and he asked what the rims are made of. I said aluminum, and he said they couldn't do it becuase the paint wouldn't stick. WTF? They are aluminum alloy right? I said the stock ones are painted though, and he had no good response. Should I have specified cast aluminum rather than straight? I know they can be painted. Do you think he just didn't want to do them and I should ask other places?

How to paint your wheels

What you will need
-Jack
-Jackstands
-Tire iron is handy but not necessary
-Duplicolor wheel paint in the color you choose (I used one can of "Graphite" for four wheels)
-Duplicolor wheel paint in clear
-Aircraft stripper ($4 can at Autozone)
-Plastic scraper (I actually just used some of those plastic knives they give you for cutting cakes)
-Wheel brush with plastic bristles (comes in handy)
-Masking tape
-Index cards (I used 3x5)
-400 grit sandpaper

hahaha thats funny. Just make sure to clean, strip, clean, sand, clean, paint, and clear coat nicely and let them 'bake' for a few days in a warm dry atmospehere and you'll be golden. Good luck
