Starting Issues
I have been having a couple starting issues with my 96 Max. The first problem is when I crank the engine over, the starter seems to struggle. It winds up normally for a second then it boggs down then goes back up then the car starts. I noticed this after I had a new rear main seal installed. The second just started last week. If I don't run it for more than a day and crank it up, it misfires for a second or two then runs normal. This has happened twice so far. It only does this if it sits for more than a day. Any ideas on what could be causing these problems?

Run at least a 10 gage wire from your neg cable to one of the bolts that hold your starter on your engine and see what happens. Also take a look at your negitive cable and see how corroded it is.
I agree grounding really helps, you might be able to just clean the grounds. But you can pick up some cheap audio cable somewhere and some connectors, I got them from pep boys

Thanks for the info. I'll check the post on the starter and see how corroded it is. Any ideas on what could be causing the brief misfire? I also get a puff of black smoke when it first starts up but then it goes away. Once the misfire stops, the car runs fine.
