Alarm mod, different idea

I tried to do the VQ power beep mod but it didn't work right. I'll wire it differently later but I was wondering if it's possible to wire the horn instead of using the buzzer. Anyone tried this or have a link to it being done?

It would sound weird because it would hold the horn for two "long" honks. It would sound like the alarm was going off for 2 seconds. What did you do wrong with the alarm beep mod. I wired mine underneath the car because you can't hear it inside of the trunk. Or you can get a louder buzzer.

Ok I guess I didnt think about the horn sound.

Well the mod just didnt work. No matter how I plugged it in, the buzzer would always sound. How'd you wire yours? I would like a better sounding buzzer too...any ideas?

I can't find the thread that the dude put the model number in. It's at radio shack. Just go to radio shack and see what buzzers they have and look for the one that's bigger than the one in the writeup. The one in the writeup is 85db. They have louder ones.

im gonna do this mod tomorrow, i will let u know how loud it is when i install it, im gettin a 105db buzzer, and i might mount it under my bumper instead of in the trunk. i read in another thread that u dont need the relay, so im gonna try it that way.

Yeah that's what I read too. I'm gonna redo the mod when I get home this weekend. Mount outside as well. Frodo let me know how loud the 105 is outside the car.

I don't remember which radioshack buzzer I used, but when I first installed it I put it in the trunk and could hardly hear it. I then moved it outside the car behind the bumper, and it is more than loud enough to hear from a distance.

And in regards to it not working, I did not use the relay like the one write-up said, and it has worked perfectly for the better part of 2 years. I think the relay just complicates things unnecessarilly.

It should be in the stickies.

What I did to make mine louder was I placed my buzzer underneath the car right behind the back bumper. You would noticed that there is that styrofoam (sp?) piece behind the bumper and I just screwed the buzzer in place there. I also ran another one to the front of the car under the engine bay so I have 2. That way I can really hear it from the front of the car and the back.

You guys are life savers. A while back the post for this mod was better. It had the diagram that is on the back of the relay package so you knew where to put what. The VQpower thread is aweful. Anyway, i used the bigger buzzer and no relay, g/o - red and o-red and it works wonderfully. Thanks again. I though I was going crazy.

I just directly spliced them, but I don't remember the wire colors for sure because it has been a while since I've looked at it. That sounds right though.

I made an updated write up about this mod, but my page it was on doesn't work any more. I did create a pdf file of the web page. It has an updated wiring diagram (drawn in autocad not hand drawn like the VQ power page) and I also have all of the part numbers. And it works!!!

PM me with your email address & I'll send you the complete writeup.

might have blown the buzzer. I was afraid to directly splice it because I didn't want it to blow. That could be it...not really sure tho. Let us know if you figure it out.

Well I'm pretty sure that no other fuses would blow when doing that mod. If the lamp and bcm fuses are good then I'm not sure. Could blown the MCR relay in the trunk but I doubt that. I'd check the power to the wires and see if there is anything.

I'm not positive about the orange. It's a ground wire so maybe not.

Where'd you guys run the wires to hook the buzzer up outside?

i just did mine today. i got the buzzer that he said to get in the vqpower write up, its way to quiet so im gonna wire it up outside my car in a minute. at first i bought the loud buzzer, but it made a siren sound instead of just a beep, and i didnt like that so i returned it. it was very easy to wire up.

i just got done mounting it under the bumper. actually i taped it there, but ill bolt it down tomorrow cuz its blizzarding outside and i was freezing my *** off. it sounds MUCH better outside. its the perfect loudness, using the buzzer mentioned in the vqpower write up. i also didnt use the relay they said to use, and it is working fine. i have the 86db buzzer. i love it!

Just to be sure, check the fuse under the dash. Mine did the same thing and it was that fuse.

Be sure to remove that tape when the weather get's better because when it get's hot outside that tape won't last. I have no idea why the writeup ever mentioned wiring it inside the trunk. It's pointless to do that. Behind the bumper is definately the best place. Mine just stopped working last month but I don't care. I haven't checked the wiring. I don't know if the buzzer blew or what. Now that I have the 791xv I have no use for it.

If i were you , i would mount it inside the car.

Have two, one outside and one inside.
Also have a backup battery, its very very easy to unplug the battery cables and i dont think anybody gives a dammn about alarms going off these days.

I mean when have you turned around to see why the alarm went off!!

What?! What does that have to do with the buzzer?

Also you might want to check the BCM fuse. since thats the wire that has no power.

I was thinking that unless you press the lock button on your fob while testing, the orange wire should be dead. Does that make sense to anyone but me? I thought the green/orange wire was the power, then BCM wire (orange) should only be active when you press the button. Not sure though. Correct me if I am wrong. I'll check mine later today and post back what I find out.
