Tranny Sensor questions
Tranny Sensor questions
Hello all!
I was wondering if anyone knows what the green plug is that attaches to the tranny on top. This sensor i know controls the backup lights and something else.
I have it disconected because my backup lights were not working and the other function is what im curious about. Sensor controls idle when tranny is put into gear.
If anyone can tell me what it is it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Corey

auto or stick???
why do you "have it disconnected because your backup lights WERE not working"?
Also, did you mean to ask IF the sensor controls idle when put in gear? nope, on a five-speed it's for the back-up lights and nuetral safety switch. I thought autos had the backup light switch and park/neutral safety switch in the shifter console, maybe maxima's aren't like that though.

Are you auto or stick? sounds like your auto. On a 5 speed, the RPS (reverse position sensor) thats what controls the back up lights, is on the bottom of the tranny. The green connector on the top is the speed sensor which is for your speedometer.
tranny
well its a 5sp 1995 with a 98 engine
and because i swapped in a 98 engine my idle would go up when i put the car in gear.. i havent had time to mess around with the vac lines so i pulled the sensor and the wierd high idle in gear went away. this sensor also turns on my backup lights i know this because when i jump the terminals on the conector the lights go on. there is 4 different wires on the connector. two wires when jumped turn on my backup lights and the other two do some sort of in gear idle regulation...
i hope this is clear. i unplugged the sensor to make the idle stop going to 1800 when i put the car in gear. the backup light issue was there already but i am pretty sure it is controled with the same sensor due to the tests i mention above. and my speedo and everything else works great..
any more help is greatly appreciated.
thanks again
