hit the gas, Than it starts
Anyone know why my car will not start until i turn the key and give it gas. If i just turn the key it wil not start, just rev up and die. For this reason i cant use my remote start. But if i give it gas just 1 time it will stay on. All help is appreciated.

EDIT: actually no it happens regardless of weather now.

hey guys, im in the same boat exactly. i have done mostly all the things people have suggested, plugs, throttle body, iacv, fuel filter.....i just read in a different post that new grounds to the starter and transmission have solved this problem....i hope so...because what is the point of having remote start if you cant use it. maybe someone else can help?

Buy a Haynes shop manual 
and do some trouble shooting. There is a cold fast idle plunger and linkage that opens the throttle plate when the engine is cold. If thats not adjusted correctly or the plunger isn't working your going to have cold start problems as you described.

I had the same problem. Check your battery first. Make sure you have enough CCA (cold cranking amps) to start. Clean your TB. I didn't touch the IACV because it involved replacing a gasket and messing with a screw that for most people on this forum screws up their car.
I replaced my battery, cleaned my TB and bought a new starter and the car works fine now.

i have the same damn problem. the car runs perfectly when it does start, but if i don't gas it while turning the key it won't start. could be the plugs, but wouldn't that affect performance when the car is on also? and where is a cheap place to get a starter?

i don't think it's remote start....most remote start has got a starter cutoff...where if you don't turn the alarm off it'll not allow someone with a key to crank...but this is different...the car is able to crank.

I had that problem right before my starter was replaced, only when it was really cold out. Since I have had the new starter even on the coldest days after sitting it cranks right over and runs fine. Before I had to give it a little gas on very cold days.

I bought mine at Autozone for about $150 bucks. I think it has a lifetime warranty. Pretty easy to change out. Get a Haynes manual if you do not already have one, very helpful tool.

OMG I thought I was the only one with this problem...My 95 Max won't start in the morning when its cold and its been doing that way before I got a remote start. I have replaced starter with a nissan one didn't help...done tune up no help...my machince says it could be my knock sensor also still waiting to get some money to fix that but in the mean time i will try the other things u guys suggested.

same problem here.. i just cleaned my throttle body today. and it idles higher now... one mechanic told me that it can be my " cold fuel injector" supposedly its a seperate injector that gives it a little more gas when its cold to prevent it from shutting down.

I had the same issues where my car would just stall after starting it on a cold morning (below 40 degree F). I cleaned out all the gunk out of my throttle body (with a toothbrush, some throttle body spray cleaner, and towel). Now, the car starts fine, and yes, it will idle at 1k and slowly drop down when warming up, which is fine! Hopefully that will fix your issues of starting it cold.

I sometimes have that problem. The thing is it went through most of the winter without that issue...even on the coldest days we had. Recently when the morning was a bit warmer...it gave me that problem...so confusing.

mine has progressed on to doing this. before it would start then die (it started doing it 2 winters ago on the coldest days) and now i have to give it gas or it keeps cranking. i'm changing out my plugs tomorrow to see if thats the issue, if not then the starter next. if that doesn't fix it then i guess i gotta go to a mechanic.

Check your grounding as well. A new starter fixed my problem, as well as a new battery. I would check the battery. If OK, check grounding, finally I'd look for a starter. Go from cheapest to most expensive.

can someone explain to me why grounding cables could be a possible solution to the problem? i don't quite understand. if the car started fine before without the grounding cables then why the sudden need, especially with lower temperatures?
