Clicking/Widing/Griding at startup
Clicking/Widing/Griding at startup
Here's the problem. When I go to start my car in the mornings, the car will start right up, no problems. But the thing is when I do start it, you can hear this loud winding/clicking/chain whirling noise as soon as the engine turns over. After the startup, you can hear this noticeable clicking/knocking sound until the car warms up. Once the car warms up, the noise is quieter, but you can still hear it. I've noticed this for a few months now, and now its just getting irriitating.
Also, when I drive the car without letting it warm up, you can definatly hear the clicking/knocking sound until it warms up. I popped the hood one day and figured the noise was comming from around left side/pully area of the engine. Also note that I do have a small coolant leak from around the oil pan area(possibly water pump?), and the sound seems to be comming from around the water pump/pully area, but who knows, im mystified.
Any comments on what this might be? I know this is not normal because im almost imbarrassed when I start the car in the parking lot because its so noticable lol

It sounds like you need to replace your water pump, and timing chain tensioner. The good news is that you can kill 2 birds with one stone. You have to remove the tensioner to replace the water pump. So, if you're going to have the water pump replaced, have the tensioner checked or replaced at the same time, to cut down on labor costs. Change your oil as well.
